Summary

MongoDB is hiring a Head of Americas Compliance to lead our Americas compliance function. The role, and individual contributor to start, will report into the Senior Director of Americas Employee Experience and will be responsible for the formalization of a compliance framework and strategy for the Americas region. This role will partner closely with regional Employee Experience leadership in the Americas, EMEA and APAC to ensure global alignment on frameworks, programs and practices where necessary. This role requires a proactive and collaborative individual with excellent communication skills, capable of leading and guiding the HR team in maintaining a compliant and ethical workplace. 

The Employee Experience Team at MongoDB is the face of HR to the approximately 5,000 employees globally. The team is responsible for providing full employee life cycle service delivery from onboarding to separation management in partnership with the rest of the People Team including the following CoEs: Recruiting, Total Rewards, Learning & Development, Employee Engagement & Inclusion, HR Business Partnering and HR Operations. The team is also responsible for our Workplace sustainability and community/events efforts, Employee Relations, policy and process enhancements including regional compliance as well as developing programs to enhance manager capability across the company. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Formalize a regional Compliance (Policy, Training, Audits and ER) framework that includes recommendations on how to build a team around this role over time
  • Develop and implement an effective compliance program to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.  Ensure in-Region Compliance of HR policies, processes and programs
  • Oversee the Employee Relations process for the Americas to ensure all issues are handled appropriately and in accordance with compliance and risk management
  • Lead regular compliance audits and risk assessments including policy creation, documentation, manager training, systems / process approvals as needed to identify areas of potential compliance vulnerability and recommend corrective actions
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to create, implement and maintain HR policies and procedures to ensure they are applied consistently and support escalations effectively when they occur
  • Partner closely with Legal to stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations affecting the industry, communicating updates and implications to relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate compliance considerations into business processes and decision-making
  • Design and deliver comprehensive compliance training programs to educate HR staff, managers, and employees on compliance obligations and best practices
  • Establish and maintain effective channels for reporting compliance concerns and conduct thorough investigations as needed
  • Prepare and present regular compliance reports to senior management highlighting key metrics, trends, and areas of focus
  • Build strong relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and other external stakeholders as necessary
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Law, or a related field; Master’s degree or JD preferred
  • At least 10-15 years of well-rounded experience in compliance roles with at least 5 years in a leadership position. Experience in a high growth technology business is a plus.  Relevant compliance certifications are a double plus
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage others 
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of employment laws in the US is a must, combined with the proven ability to interpret and guide employment matters, manage grievances, disputes and investigations in alignment with local employment law and regulations
  • Passion for & demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing compliance programs and driving operational excellence for a high growth and complex company. We are still building the bridge as we walk and we need someone who has the organizational & project management skills that are required to do that and enjoys the exhilaration that comes with it
  • Critical thinking skills are important. This includes the ability to analyze a situation or problem, identify the root cause, break solutions down into achievable milestones and make informed data-driven decisions
  • Adaptability and flexibility for two reasons - we are a company that is scaling in a market that is constantly evolving and this role partners with employees at all levels of the organization. You will need to shift regularly between tactical and strategic priorities, deal with a lot of change and focus on driving outcomes across a wide range of levels in the company 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • You need to be comfortable in an accelerated learning environment and be self-motivated and assertive to succeed

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:$81,000—$160,000 USD
