INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER, FACILITIES
The Industrial Designer will play a crucial role in the conceptual development of the campus, environmental/spatial, and interior designs. Industrial Designers excel in common design deliverables such as sketches, prototypes, color and material finishes, and visualization..
Within the design team at SpaceX, there are several sub-teams with different focus areas. Members of the design team are pivotal in educating and implementing design process elements, including digital modeling, scale model prototyping, theme development, and production integration.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create conceptual/architectural renderings
- Work in collaboration with project stakeholders to develop project scope
- Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners and clients
- Identify requirements and critical items for the operation and risks
- Create and execute design solutions for problems of form, usability and physical ergonomics as required to be able to communicate project requirements and options to stakeholders
- Participate in the design process, including coordinating technical review of all discipline work, scheduling design reviews with all project stakeholders, and measuring and reporting on design progress to project management team
- Participate in the design and construction bidding process, including attendance at pre-bid meetings and walks, processing of pre-bid RFI’s, review of Vendor proposals and award of project
- Develop and maintain updated Revit models for each of the SpaceX assets
- Assist project team in CAD/BIM project setup and collaboration through the project. Set-up project templates, workspaces, libraries, design options, hyperlinking and plots
- Space planning for office assignments, furniture/décor selection, management and tracking
- Coordinate facilities projects to ensure vendors meet SpaceX, Air Force, and NASA standards while delivering promised services, materials, and craftsmanship
- Assist in improving the facilities department efficiency by developing automations and/or implementing novel construction techniques for quick delivery
- Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners and clients
- Understand and maintain aesthetic direction on projects and execute architectural/technical design solutions
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a design discipline (i.e. architecture, industrial design)
- 3+ years of professional experience in facilities design, renovation, or construction
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of working knowledge of digital modeling platform and management tools (Navisworks, BIM 360, Autodesk Force and/or ReCap)
- 1+ years of experience in BlueBeam Revu/Extreme software and collaboration management in these tools
- Proficient in Autodesk REVIT, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros & Sketch up
- Proficient with Enscape or other similar rendering programs
- Skilled in reading, interpreting and creating engineering drawings and specifications.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of International Building Code (IBC)
- Familiarity with industry standards & codes
- Concise communication skills for conveying subjective or objective data (visually, verbally and in-writing)
- Strong understanding of materials, architectural and engineering tectonics
- Experience with importing and exporting metadata from models into lifecycle management tools
- Ability to create / modify custom applications
- Excellent document management and organizational skills
- Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
- Self-starter and possess the drive to pursue continued education on technologies utilized in the company
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong visual portfolio is mandatory for consideration
- This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area
- Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours, weekends and offsite when needed
- Occasional travel may be required based on specific project tasks
- Ability to remain focused while working in hazardous environments, while wearing appropriate PPE
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs

Pay range:
Industrial Designer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per yearIndustrial Designer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per yearYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
