Job Description

As an Ingredient Specialist you will be supporting the Protein & PHF (produce, herbs & fruit) categories. This role serves as the key point of contact for the Product Development Team, working closely with our Food Safety and Procurement to drive innovation and quality. As a category expert, you will play a crucial role in overseeing sensory testing for existing and new ingredients, managing ingredient performance, and leading ingredient improvement initiatives.

This role is based in Chippendale and reporting to the Ingredient Management Lead.

You will…

  • Identify and report on underperforming ingredients (SKUs) within the Protein & PHF categories, proposing improvements in collaboration with FSQA and Strategic Procurement to enhance customer experience.
  • Conduct Post Launch Reviews for all new ingredients in your portfolio, providing recommendations on the future of the ingredient.
  • Lead sensory testing for existing and new ingredients, including session preparation, sensory panel facilitation, and reporting in line with best practices.
  • Organise and manage RFP (tender) testing for your categories within agreed timelines in collaboration with the Procurement team.
  • Manage ingredient off boarding projects for assigned categories.
  • Continuously review and improve sensory assessment processes, tools, and related workflows.
  • Support ad hoc projects, such as organoleptic shelf life testing and ingredient performance deep dives.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating team Confluence process pages.

You have/are…

  • A bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Culinary Science, or a related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of meat manufacturing processes preferred, with an understanding of raw material variability and processing methods
  • Experience in sensory testing and evaluation methodologies, including designing, conducting, and interpreting sensory panels
  • Proficient culinary knowledge to assess ingredient functionality and identify appropriate recipe applications
  • Strong project management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent timelines and cross-functional initiatives
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across departments such as FSQA, Procurement, and Culinary
  • Detail-oriented, customer-centric mindset and strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
