Emerging Media Ventures (“EMV”) is the Sports and Media arm of Blenheim Chalcot. Headquartered in London from our Scale Space campus, BC has been building exciting and disruptive businesses for over 26 years. EMV is the majority shareholder of the Royals Sports Group, which operates a portfolio of assets centred around the growth of global cricket.

Selected Portfolio Companies:

  • Rajasthan Royals - a founding franchise in the Indian Premier League. IPL champions in 2008, finalists in 2022 and reaching the playoffs in 2013, 2015, 2018.
  • Barbados Royals - one of the six founding franchises of the Caribbean Premier League, tournament winner in 2014 and 2019. In 2022, the women’s team won the inaugural 6IXTY competition and the men’s side were CPL finalists.
  • Paarl Royals - one of the six founding franchises of the SA20 league in South Africa. Semi-finalists in 2023 and 2024.

EMV has a deep commitment to cricket which pre-dates its interest in the IPL, with involvement across numerous cricket ventures since 2006 including investment into Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the Cricket Star talent hunt. EMV is uniquely positioned to provide exposure to the global growth in cricket.

THE EMV INVESTMENT TEAM

The Investment Team is responsible for defining and executing EMV’s investment strategy, providing strategic and financial support for the portfolio and leading on investment processes for acquisitions. The team is responsible for:

  • Investment analysis: analysing and presenting investment opportunities using a data-led approach, producing recommendations to the investment committee and undertaking detailed due diligence
  • Investment management: executing fundraises, M&A activities or debt refinances following decisions taken at investment committees, coordinating with other teams within BC including Legal and Tax
  • Market analysis: producing white-paper memos on industry trends or investment themes which are relevant to EMV or its portfolio companies
  • Portfolio monitoring: assessing portfolio performance and supporting management teams on key matters
  • Investor relations: producing detailed financial reporting for institutional investors
  • Incubation support: assisting with the generation of new sports ventures within the portfolio and supporting analysis

THE ROLE

The role is a key part of EMV’s Investment Team. Our team structure is flat and inclusive, with analysts working directly with the wider team and leadership.

Our analysts work across all the team’s responsibilities as described above, with support from senior Analysts/Associates. The day-to-day work is extremely varied and very good prioritisation and organisation skills are needed to adapt to changing priorities. We are a lean team, so ability to adapt and respond to incoming workstreams is a core competency.

EMV analysts are enrolled on a learning and development (“L&D”) program from Day 1, which includes training in financial modelling, management, presentation and commercial strategy. Being a self-starter and proactively keen to upskill is an essential core competency.

Specific examples of responsibilities include:

Investment Analysis

  • Review financial data and forecasts from prospective investments, asking key questions and analysing trends or points of interest
  • Assisting with the drafting of investment committee materials and recommendations to the IC members. These incorporate reviews of a company’s progress, strategy, financial performance, market trends and competition, as well as analysis of the investment opportunity
  • Meet with the management teams of prospective investments
  • Support with market research for existing portfolio companies on potential partnerships, strategies and incubation of new venture ideas
  • Support on fundraises (secondary equity transactions), strategic partnership discussions, and other workstreams (M&A activities, debt raises and refinancings)

Portfolio Management

  • Assisting portfolio companies with their strategy execution, including production of research reports and quantitative analysis
  • Assist with fundraising or refinancing activities across the portfolio, working directly with management teams of portfolio companies

Investor Relations

  • Gather and assess financial forecasts, KPIs, and performance data from portfolio companies on a quarterly basis
  • Support investor communications with our network of institutional and high net worth investors
  • Ensure key stakeholders are briefed with prep materials (bios, prior meeting notes) ahead of meetings
  • Manage and maintain up-to-date data in our Dynamo database, following transactions that take place, such as fundraises or M&A processes

ABOUT YOU

Essential requirements:

  • Between 0-2 years’ experience, with preference for a background in investment banking, investment management or consulting. Graduates will be considered for the role, provided they have a demonstrable interest in the sector and core competencies listed below
  • Preference for candidates with an undergraduate degree in Economics or STEM
  • Preferably candidates will have an interest in sports, tech or investment
  • Understanding of company financial information (P&L, balance sheet and cashflow forecasts) is essential
  • High computer literacy with demonstrable knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-moving business with desire to develop further technical and financial skills, and grow within the role
  • Highly proactive and willing to take ownership of tasks, with strong organisational ability
  • Excellent communication, written and people skills – able to work with a wide range of senior stakeholders
  • Data-driven, numerical mindset with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to identify trends and anomalies
