Italian Language Manager (FTC- Maternity Coverage)

The Tripadvisor Localization team is looking for an Italian Language Manager for a 6 months’ maternity cover fixed term contract, ideally starting from February 23rd, 2024 until the end of September 2024.
The successful candidate will manage the Italian language quality, provide local market expertise, as well as drive and collaborate on growth opportunities and initiatives for the Italian point of sale. This role reports into the Senior French Language Manager and will work partially remote and partially onsite at the Tripadvisor office in London.
As the person responsible for Italian language quality at Tripadvisor, you will be experienced in English-to-Italian translation, different translation solutions, language quality measurement, translation technology and translation to different quality levels. You will be responsible for ensuring translation meets expectation through a vendor solution. We are looking for a unique individual as you will not only be an expert in the Italian language and market but you will also work with cross-functional teams to ensure product, content, and marketing are right for Italian users.
What you’ll do:

Own all aspects of language quality for Italy, in line with the wider Tripadvisor localization strategy and localization best practices

Engage with and influence relevant stakeholders across Tripadvisor, e.g. PMs and content writers, translation vendors and Localization to ensure the right language quality on priority content types with scalability in mind

Proofread translation in line with Tripadvisor’s LQA strategy to verify that it is correct for Tripadvisor’s requirements; identify linguistic issues, work cross-functionally to resolve issues, and identify and proactively communicate plans to avoid issue recurrence

Establish and maintain Italian language assets and terminology to ensure consistency and alignment with Tripadvisor Brand voice

Proactively manage language quality across all platforms (Web, Native apps) by establishing plans for QA testing of Italian-specific features, in line with Tripadvisor’s business priorities and QA strategy

Manage market-specific projects and initiatives to ensure cultural and linguistic relevance for Italy and to unlock new opportunities e.g. content curation, App Store and CRM optimization

Manage relationship with Italian language vendor teams with regards to Italian language quality expectations and resolve issues where needed

Support business goals for the Italian market

Proactively identify opportunities to improve the Italian Tripadvisor experience, and work with stakeholders across the company (e.g. Global Markets, SEO/SEM) to address them. Examples include search keyword optimization, improving language prediction tools within search interfaces (typeahead), optimising SEM creatives, etc.

Gain deep knowledge and awareness of the Italian travel market, and use data (e.g. consumer insight research, competitor research, testing, linguistic bugs, or LQA framework data) to drive innovative solutions to define language quality expectations

Bring Italian user experience insights (attitudes, opinions, and behaviours) into the product development process to help the business better achieve its goals in the Italy market. This includes e.g. working with internal and external researchers, translating surveys and survey results or participating in user research

Provide cultural and linguistic consulting to Tripadvisor product teams in order to deliver a high quality Italian User Experience

Contribute to, and manage where needed, other localization-wide initiatives, e.g. localization bugs, partnering on technology changes, or language asset management

Collaborate with the Global Markets team to identify and resolve bugs for the Italian POS
What you’ll bring to the team:

Minimum of 4 years translation and proofreading experience in Italian for the Italian market in the online space

Italian mother tongue and fluency in English

Strong native language skills, with marketing translation and transcreation experience (experience with web localization a plus)

Ability to take initiative and to work independently and remotely as part of an international network

Takes ownership of projects and programs for which s/he is responsible and can be relied upon to ensure that work is completed in an appropriate and timely manner

Thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven, team-oriented environment

Deep understanding of localization industry best practices and end-to-end localization processes

Understanding of localization tools and language quality management methodologies (experience with the DQF model and with TMS would be a plus)

Eager to embrace the business requirement of translation at different levels of quality

Excellent presentation, articulate verbal and written communication and great interpersonal skills

Strong business acumen and proven experience of managing and influencing internal stakeholders; considers the relevance/impact of each decision on the business

Strong analytical skills: understands and utilises metrics relevant to role

Flexibility to attend meetings across multiple time zones

Experience in creative writing and media/journalism a plus

Knowledge of the travel industry and trends for Italy
