Junior Analyst - Portfolio Analytics

Position Overview:
For college graduates looking to gain exposure to the private markets industry, develop skills for investment analysis, and work towards potential full time career opportunities with StepStone. Junior Analysts will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of financial markets by working closely with the performance analysis team and assisting in investment monitoring and reporting efforts. There is also opportunity to work with and contribute to the StepStone’s Portfolio Analytics and Reporting team supporting Real Estate operations. Teams located in Cleveland, Ohio and La Jolla, CA. This role is a Full-time (40 hours per week) opportunity for a 16-week period with the possibility to extend or to transition to a permanent role.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist the Research team with the due diligence of new private markets funds by constructing track record models, which are used to analyze the historical performance of private markets fund managers. An advanced proficiency with Excel will be required
- Process Secondary models, which are used to analyze the historical and project performance of secondary opportunities. A proficiency with using Python code will be required
- Aid in the creation and testing of the team’s automation and other code processing tools
- Classify and store characteristics of investment managers into StepStone’s proprietary database
- Transform and maintain integrity of data in StepStone’s database from a variety of sources
- Develop a general understanding of concepts and terminology within private market investments
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Possesses or in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Information Systems, or a related field
- Demonstrated track record of academic success
- Preference for individuals with relevant internships or work experience
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Entry level proficiency in Excel is required
- Basic familiarity of Python or other coding knowledge is required
- MySQL or other database experience preferred
- Power BI or other modeling concepts preferred
- Knowledge of investments and/or private markets
- Extremely strong attention to detail to maintain data integrity
- Willingness to ask questions
Salary Range is $25 per hour
