We are looking for a Junior Data Engineer (full-time) to join our Data Engineering team in Berlin.

As a member of our Data Platform team, your mission at Babbel will be to change the face of language learning one automation at a time. Working alongside your teammates in a fast-paced environment, you'll be collaborating and diving into different areas such as Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Site Reliability, InfoSec and many more to change the data landscape.

You will:

  • Secure our precious data and the infrastructure it relies on
  • Keep the data moving towards where is actually needed (streaming and batch) with well-tested and performant solutions
  • Automate them all!
  • Monitoring and alerting (might sound boring, but… refer to the point above)
  • Participate in our knowledge sharing sessions (we're a learning company after all!)

You have:

  • Strong experience using Python 3 latest developments for scripting and OOP
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture concepts and design patterns
  • Familiarity with concepts related to software development processes and best practices (continuous integration, continuous development, testing, monitoring, etc)
  • A general understanding of structured/unstructured data and SQL/NoSQL databases
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to learn by doing without being afraid to make mistakes or ask questions
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Nice to have:

  • Have previous experience in a Data Engineering position
  • Know your way around AWS
  • Have ever worked with Spark
  • Are familiar with CI/CD tools such as Github Actions
  • Used tools such as Git, Terraform, Jira, etc

Some perks of becoming a Babbelonian:

  • Enjoy 30 vacation days and the chance to take a 3-month Sabbatical. Plus family and life situation counseling
  • Decide how, when and from where you want to work with our flexible working hours and remote friendly options as Jobbatical (up to 3 months inside the EU) or work from our fully equipped office with nap, faith and family rooms
  • Learn and grow with the internal learning opportunities, and use a yearly learning & development budget for external training. Learn languages with Babbel for free with your full access to Babbel & Babbel Live classes
  • Take advantage of your mobility benefits options and a discounted Urban Sports Club membership
  • Be part of our employee communities (such as Femgineers, DE&I Ambassadors and LGBTQIA groups), attend cultural and regular social events
