The Generative AI team is part of the Internal Engineering team responsible for delivering custom software solutions that are used by the rest of the organization. As the leader of this team you will play a pivotal role in shaping the development and implementation of our generative AI initiatives. You will be responsible for delivering innovative solutions that provide business value to various departments within the company. 

This is a hybrid management position that will require recruiting for and developing junior engineers, leading a cross-functional team, as well as rolling up your sleeves and writing code. MongoDB Engineering Leads are expected to be both people managers and active developers.

Position Expectations/Role Responsibilities/What you’ll do...

You will have an opportunity to play a leading role in defining and contributing to how MongoDB builds and leverages the latest in AI technologies such as Generative AI and Machine Learning models. (AI experience not required)Play a pivotal role in defining how MongoDB leverages some of the latest and most rapidly evolving technologies, frameworks, and tools.Lead a cross-functional team of individual contributors to deliver maximum value to the organization via solutions built with Generative AI technologiesDirectly manage a subset of the team, responsible for ensuring their success, aiding their career growth, and facilitating their technical workCollaborate with cross-functional partners to foster alignment and remove roadblocks for the team. Identify, design, implement, test, and support new features related to generative ai solutions. 

We’re looking for someone with…
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, and driving results.
  • 5+ years experience developing full stack applications with fluency in React based front end development
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, and propose effective solutions
  • an innate agile mindset, able to break down large problems into manageable chunks such as to demonstrate and deliver iterative value
  • A passion for Generative AI, eager to learn about the latest innovations, and apply them to real-world business problems
  • Nice to have - Strong understanding of generative AI technologies, understanding prompt engineering, building domain-specific models leveraging (ideally) vector search, and/or experience with LLMs.
Success Measures:
  • In three months you will have familiarized yourself with much of our Generative AI stack, forged productive relationships within the team, and developed an initial understanding of our strategic objectives and how to execute on them in this space
  • In six months, you will have coalesced the cross-functional team into a single effective unit and delivered at least one product to the organization
  • In a year you will have too many pleased customers to do everything they ask of you, and you will be asking to grow your team; You will have delivered several solutions that leverage AI and/or Machine learning in order to measurably increase the productivity of the organization

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:$137,000—$270,000 USD
