LEAD ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER

This position requires a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety professional who will be able to use their skill, knowledge and experience to further our Environmental Health and Safety programs within our fast-paced work environment that includes operations that have never been attempted before! 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Lead Environmental Health & Safety Engineer will:

  • Manage the day-to-day and long-term activities/priorities of the EHS team which will include a combination of technicians, specialists and engineers
    • Coordinate with site leadership to ensure appropriate EHS involvement in department development/modification plans and procedure development
    • Represent the EHS department at site wide management meetings/briefings
    • Provide instructional guidance of job assignments, correct procedures and applicable techniques to perform specific skills; ensure accuracy and completion
    • Ensure mission and values are communicated to the team and are integrated within team goals, objectives, and work tasks
    • Provide primary input to hiring, termination, promotion, performance and reward decisions for direct reports
    • Be responsible for administrative authority over direct reports
    • Provide training and guidance as needed to direct reports to ensure they have technical and administrative knowledge needed to implement an occupational health and safety and environmental program
    • Provide instructional guidance of job assignments, correct procedures and applicable techniques to perform specific skills; ensure accuracy and completion
    • Ensure that EHS policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, clients and stakeholders
    • Review and approve Purchase Orders, manage operational budget
  • Implement all aspects of an occupational safety program, including processes, programs and documentation outlined by OSHA standards
    • Inspect processes, facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
    • Collaborate with department leadership to proactively ensure regulatory requirements are met
    • Develop solutions to challenges that will improve workplace safety and advance the EHS program
    • Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees or contractors
    • Review and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management
    • Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
  • Maintain, develop or implement site specific environmental policies which include but are not limited to:
    • Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
    • Air permitting
    • Spill prevention/response
    • Storm water management
    • Waste water
  • Coordinate with and serve as the main point of contact for local resource agencies

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of EHS disciplines

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with an emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Environmental Engineering
  • Demonstrated record of high-performance (Rated 4/4 or above in previous review cycle)
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills and an aptitude and desire to lead people
  • Experience in both Environmental and Safety fields
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is not a remote position and will require relocation if not already local to the Bastrop, TX area
  • Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
  • Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:          

Lead Environmental Health & Safety Engineer: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00/per year           

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
