Join us! The GoFundMe team is seeking an experienced WordPress Engineer to contribute to the development, customization, and maintenance of high-performance WordPress websites and applications. You will work closely with designers, content creators, and other developers to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions aligned with business goals.

This role requires deep expertise in PHP, WordPress architecture, modern development workflows, and front-end technologies.

The Job

  • Development and maintenance of custom WordPress themes and plugins following best practices and modern coding standards
  • Develop and implement sustainable strategies for more streamlined content management for collaboration, editors, and translators
  • Architect scalable and performant WordPress solutions for high-traffic websites
  • Collaborate with design and product teams to translate UI/UX designs into functional WordPress implementations with a keen attention to detail and appropriate interactivity
  • Collaborate with design system team to implement design consistency and best practices across the entire GoFundMe experience
  • Integrate third-party APIs and services into WordPress websites
  • Contribute to code reviews to uphold code quality standards
  • Optimize websites for SEO, accessibility, performance, and responsiveness across all modern devices as directed by the Director of Technical SEO.
  • Manage and improve WordPress hosting configurations, deployment pipelines (CI/CD) and version control processes
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest WordPress core updates, trends, and vulnerabilities, ensuring timely upgrades
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues across the stack (front-end, PHP back-end, database, server environments)

You 

  • 8+ years of professional WordPress development experience
  • Advanced proficiency in PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and MySQL
  • Strong experience with custom WordPress theme and plugin development
  • Solid understanding of WordPress core, hooks, filters, REST API, and multisite environments
  • Strong experience with ACF, Gutenberg/Block Editor, and third-party integrations
  • Knowledge of WordPress hosting solutions (WPEngine, WPVIP) and domain management
  • Proficiency with Node, npm, Git, Gulp, Webpack, Bootstrap, jQuery, Tailwind, and modern development frameworks and workflows
  • Experience working with a mature design system or suitable equivalent
  • Experience working with localization, modern translation plugins and large-scale multisite installations
  • Experience with performance and media optimization, caching strategies, and WordPress security best practices
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with other developers and teams to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Experience with React, REST API / GraphQL and custom block development a plus
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Understanding of SEO technical principles and schema.org structured data

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $133,000 - $200,000 + equity + benefits.  As this is a remote position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
