What You’ll Do

We’re looking for a Legal Counsel – Europe (Regulatory & Strategy) to join our Amsterdam office.

You will advise the European management team on regulation and strategy, guide compliance, and help shape expansion plans. The Legal team handles all company legal matters, from client and supplier contracting to banking, regulatory, technology, employment, marketing, and property work. You will support this broad range and manage risk while enabling efficient contracting. The role requires strategic and regulatory advice delivered with strong commercial awareness and close collaboration with business functions. Work is shared across the team, offering variety and the chance to focus on your interests. As Modulr grows, you will have opportunities to influence major projects and work across different markets.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing legal support for European business expansion and regulatory engagement.
  • Advising the European management team on the legal implications of strategic initiatives and regulatory developments.
  • Coordinating with UK Legal and Compliance functions
  • Taking ownership of complex legal topics and driving progress and change across teams through collaboration, clear advice, and practical solutions.
  • Monitoring and interpreting EU regulatory developments (Wft, Wwft, DORA) and translating them into actionable internal guidance.
  • Acting as liaison with external counsel and regulatory bodies, including the DNB, to support Modulr’s ongoing compliance and expansion
  • Taking the opportunity to shape Modulr’s European legal and regulatory framework as we expand across the EU, while working closely with experienced legal professionals in London and Edinburgh.

Who You Are

What you’ll need

  • European law degree (ideally Dutch law).
  • You will have 3–6 years’ experience at a law firm, in financial services or fintech, preferably with exposure to payment institutions or e-money.
  • You are familiar with Dutch and EU financial regulations, including Wft, Wwft, and DORA.
  • You are comfortable advising management on both operational and strategic matters.
  • You thrive in a scaling international environment, balancing commercial pragmatism with regulatory rigor.

Nice to haves

  • An optimistic outlook, can-do attitude and open personality that likes to have fun at work as well as getting the job done.
  • Experience in working in a cross-jurisdictional legal team with a broad mandate.

What We Offer You

  • Share Options – We offer a Company Share Option Plan (CSOP), giving you the opportunity to benefit from any increase in share value in the event of a sale, merger, or flotation.
  • Bonus – Our annual discretionary bonus, paid in May for the previous year, is based on both company and individual performance.
