We are looking for a motivated Legal Product & Privacy Counsel to be part of our Global Product & Privacy Team, based in a large office in Sofia, Bulgaria. We are an English-speaking organisation and therefore fluent written/verbal English is essential. 

As a Legal Product & Privacy Counsel, you will play a critical role in counselling our European product teams on how to design and launch products that comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

 What you'll do

  • Support the Legal Product & Privacy team in all product and privacy related tasks. This involves assisting in ensuring compliance with applicable financial and tax regulations, data privacy laws, consumer protection law, IT/IP-law, competition law and other relevant legal requirements with either advising directly or engaging with other functions/external advisors as applicable.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as product tribes and engineers, tax, and compliance, to seek input from their perspectives and ensure cohesive understanding of all obligations across the organisation.
  • Support other members of the legal and business teams on privacy and product matters, including in areas related to partnerships and other business development opportunities.
  • Identify potential legal risks associated with SumUp products and advise on risk mitigation strategies. 
  • Monitor and review internal compliance with relevant privacy requirements and standards. 
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in fintech, including technological advancements, competitive landscape, and regulatory and legal changes, to provide proactive legal support.

You'll be great for this position if

  • You have a law degree, Data Protection qualifications are advantageous.
  • You are fluent English and have great communication skills 
  • Legal professional and/or data protection professional, with a minimum of 2 - 3 years’ experience.
  • You have understanding of data protection laws, IT law, competition law, consumer law 
  • You are organised, analytical, pragmatic, solution orientated, with the ability to prioritise and execute projects in an ever-changing environment.
  • You are familiar with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space.
  • You understand the structure and regulatory framework of the payments industry or related financial services.
  • You have sound judgement and the ability to analyse situations and information quickly.
