Litigation Paralegal

We are hiring our first Litigation Paralegal to join the Employment and Litigation team in Toast’s Legal department, reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Employment & Litigation. The Litigation Paralegal will be an important member of the Litigation team, with primary daily responsibility for managing Toast’s responses to subpoenas and requests for information, maintaining our litigation docket and reporting, coordinating and leading critical projects within the Legal department, and providing experienced case management and support for disputes of all stages across all areas of Toast’s growing business. The Litigation Paralegal will work cross-functionally within the Legal team and across the business to develop deep knowledge of Toast and our products and services, and will be entrusted to operate with a high degree of independence to provide practical, effective legal support on a wide variety of legal issues.
This is a hybrid role based in our Boston office, with an expectation that the successful candidate will work from the office two days a week.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
- Primary responsibility to manage and coordinate all aspects of responses to a significant volume of subpoenas and information requests
- Maintain Toast’s litigation dockets and associated reporting
- Manage complex legal projects involving internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely execution, clear communication, and successful outcomes
- Build strong relationships with other members of the Toast Legal team and business stakeholders, becoming a trusted partner to teammates and internal clients
- Work closely with inside and outside counsel to support litigation matters at all sizes and stages, and coordinate internal efforts to support Toast’s litigation strategy and response
- Issue litigation holds and manage all aspects of discovery
- Manage document collection and review, coordinating discovery in ongoing litigation matters
- Proactively develop processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Toast’s Litigation team
- Handle a high volume of complex work, balancing competing priorities and deadlines and keeping stakeholders informed about important developments
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- A Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of litigation paralegal experience, preferable with a mix of law firm and in-house experience
- A demonstrated history of managing large-scale discovery and fact development projects for material litigation, investigations, and other legal matters
- Significant experience with all aspects of the discovery process and third-party subpoena management
- Experience with all stages of litigation and dispute management
- Strong communication skills with a variety of audiences
- Expert organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work with independence, manage competing priorities effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Team player with a passion for collaboration, and the ability to inspire trust and confidence with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Special Sauce* (Nice to Haves)
- Paralegal certification or degree
- Legal operations experience
- Background in fintech, technology, and/or software industries
- Experience with litigation in international jurisdictions
- Experience working independently in a hybrid work environment

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions, if eligible), benefits, and equity (if eligible).
Pay Range$102,000—$163,000 USD
