MANAGER, FALCON STRUCTURES ENGINEERING
The Falcon team tackles space exploration’s toughest problems through the ongoing development of our reusable launch vehicles, Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. These vehicles are currently responsible for delivering commercial, national security, and NASA satellites into orbit, as well as vital cargo and science payloads to the ISS. In addition, Falcon sent the first astronauts to the ISS on an American-made rockets since the retirement of the Space Shuttle and launched the world's first all-civilian orbital mission. These vehicles are instrumental in extending humanity’s reach to the moon, Mars, and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage teams of engineers to design, build, analyze, and test new and existing primary and secondary structure for the Falcon launch vehicle
- Support Sales and Mission Management to develop new business ventures and novel payloads and mission designs, including Government, Commercial and Rideshare missions
- Partner with production, testing, integration, and vehicle maintenance teams to ensure current and future structures lead to 100% mission success
- Develop structural designs and analysis packages to support new Falcon payloads & capabilities, including novel hardware to take advantage of new industry developments and partners
- Facilitate internal and external design reviews
- Staff, hire, and conduct performance reviews in alignment with company standards
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering
- 4+ years experience designing, building, analyzing and testing launch vehicle or spacecraft primary and secondary structures or analogous vehicle systems
- 1 + years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Experience as a technical project lead in a fast-paced team environment
- Experience working with NASA & USSF programmatic and technical leadership teams to execute to mission requirements
- Strong demonstrated CAD, hand calculations, and FEA skills
- Strong understanding of typical metallic and composite structural design considerations, including material selection, static strength, buckling, mechanical fastening, corrosion, etc.
- Experience with advanced structural analysis in at least one commercial finite element package (NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc)
- Experience with full-scale structural testing
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work long hours and weekends as necessary
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Structures Engineer /Manager: $150,000.00 - $190,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
