As a Product Specialists Manager, you will lead a team of Product Specialists to build tooling that is critical for major company initiatives.  For each tool and the overall portfolio of your team, you will lead and own roadmap prioritization, socialization and delivery.  To plan the roadmap, you will work with relevant business stakeholders across the company to ensure that their needs are being met with the tooling.   You will serve as a player-coach, meaning you will be closely involved with your team's day-to-day activities by running scrum meetings for your team, doing code reviews with them, and being an active participant of architecture/design discussions.  You will be reporting to the Global Specialist Solutions Architect Practice Lead as part of the Field Engineering Scale organization. 

The impact you will have:

  • Own the development of the Databricks Lab initiative within FE Scale including evangelizing your projects and providing regular executive and cross functional business reviews on projects in your portfolio. 
  • Hire experienced code developers for tooling projects in your portfolio (Eg.ucx and remorph) - which includes both full-time employees  as well as remote contractors.
  • Support your team’s day-to-day productivity by establishing and running the right cadences for inspection: standups, peer and leader reviews  Ensure your team has what they need in terms of infrastructure to be set up for success.
  • Drive a scalable, methodical and impactful collaboration model with our field engineers globally to enable crowdsourced development to your projects.
  • Partner with other teams and stakeholders that have business requirements for the tooling and be able to represent their interests and timelines.
  • Strategically leverage and lead external partners to accelerate development and long-term support of Databricks developed tooling.

What we look for:

  • A proven leader for projects of high visibility & high technical complexity in Field Engineering to support customers.
  • Past experience in a software developer role, contributing to a code base with high-quality code readability guidelines, unit testing and regression testing suites - ideally including experience with open source code. 
  • Exceptional people manager skills for engineering and/or software teams across local, global and nearshored resources.
  • Tech Lead Manager experience - must be able to participate in architecture discussions, as well as dig into the code base of the team to ensure quality and provide feedback in reviews, and command the respect of a highly technical team of developers on technical issues.
  • The ability to strike the delicate balance between the needs of your technical team and the code base as well as business stakeholders for the projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM subject, or MSc desirable
  • Technical background either in Data Engineering / Database technologies, Data Science, or cloud platforms

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles.  Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Local Pay Range$178,900—$316,300 USD
