Engineering Manager II, Storage and Caching

The Storage and Caching team at Pinterest owns critical infrastructure including HBase, memcached, TiDB and the in-house multi-model unified storage platform (Structured Data Store), empowering hundreds of business critical applications across Engineering and Product. As the manager of this team, you will have the opportunity to work with a high-performing team and cross functional partners to modernize our online storage and caching tech stack with cutting edge technologies. Your work will make a profound impact on the continued success of Pinterest as a thriving business with a huge growth potential. 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead a team of 10+ engineers to build reliable, performant and efficient storage and caching systems that empower hundreds of business critical applications across the entire company.
  • Lead a cross-functional strategic initiative of deprecating HBase and adopting TiDB at Pinterest to modernize the online storage tech stack.
  • Help shape Pinterest’s strategy on disaster recovery, multi region deployment and AZ failure tolerance. 
  • Drive the team vision and strategy for the next 3 years and beyond.
  • Help create a diverse and inclusive team culture that makes all feel welcome while encouraging critical thinking and candid feedback.

What we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of experience in engineering management and 5+ years as an IC working with large scale distributed systems.
  • Strong technical background in distributed systems and storage systems, with hands-on experience building and operating highly available, reliable, production grade systems at scale.
  • Experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management.
  • Experience coding in one of the following languages: Java, Python and/or C/C++.
