Managing Director/ Principal - Real Estate Investment

Position OverviewThe Managing Director of StepStone Real Estate in London will play a critical role in the growth of StepStone’s investment activity including key client coverage, portfolio management and business development in addition to the sourcing, underwriting and asset management of real estate investments across StepStone’s commingled funds and discretionary accounts, acting directly for the largest sovereigns, pensions, insurance companies and family offices globally. Specifically, the senior professional will act as the primary portfolio manager for over EUR 1.1bn of core plus AUM in Europe with the scope and responsibility to grow this area of strategic focus for the business.
Essential Job Functions:
- Proven leadership in the European real estate market, with a minimum of twelve years in real estate private equity and/or private debt investing.
- Demonstrated ability to manage portfolios for and relationships with large, sophisticated institutional investors.
- Successful track record in originating, executing, asset managing and exiting real estate investments across the risk spectrum and ideally capital structure, with specific experience in lower risk (core plus). Experience in operational real estate and alternative sectors a plus.
- Conduct due diligence including property, market, manager, legal and structural factors.
- Oversee preparation and present detailed investment committee memoranda that document key findings, recommendations, risks and merits of investment opportunities.
- Lead counterparty and stakeholder negotiations, managing external advisors.
- Pan-European experience with multi-lingual/cultural skills preferred.
- Demonstrated capital raising/client facing experience (and success) required.
Education and/or Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- BA/BS in Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting, or equivalent relevant experience. MBA or similar accreditation a strong preference
- Strong client communication skill and experience
- Value oriented investment style with a strong focus on real estate fundamentals
- Developed investment judgment with demonstrable understanding of risk/reward
- Exceptional business writing with experience preparing investment committee memos
- Strong financial modelling skills (capital structures and cash flow waterfalls)
