Location: On siteIn the Global Bank tribe, we aim to create a business account for SumUp’s customers (our merchants) across the globe that offers services and products that are accessible to all and are offered in a fair, transparent, and honest way. We want to do banking differently from how it has been done until now. We use modern technologies, techniques, and patterns and invest deeply in our product vision and execution to ensure we are delivering the best possible banking solution to our merchants.

We are looking for a hands on Mobile Engineering Manager who will lead a squad of mobile engineers building and supporting the mobile banking features in the SumUp Super App. The team is focused on delivering the most impactful user-facing features, both global and market-specific, which require a deep understanding of the mobile banking domain. You will help to shape the technical vision and strategy for both iOS and Android apps, and will also contribute to building and maintaining strong developer relations inside the mobile chapters. You’ll support our engineers to reach their full potential, mastering their current skills and developing new competencies to advance their personal growth.

What you’ll do

  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to a team of mobile engineers, to achieve outstanding performance for our critical mobile banking features.
  • Drive technical delivery, including hands-on involvement in system design, implementation, and code reviews
  • Foster engineering best practices and techniques like Continuous Delivery, Test-Driven Development, Domain-Driven Design, and Pair Programming
  • Collaborate with other mobile teams to enable modular architecture, team autonomy, and maintainable codebase, coordinate dependencies with other teams, and advocate for the company’s strategic vision on the wider platform
  • Embrace and promote a hands-on culture, underpinned by high levels of observability and a “build it support-it” mindset
  • Tackle the challenge of balancing the needs and priorities of the teams that the squad is servicing, whilst working on multiple projects with different stakeholders.
  • Hire. Yes, we are constantly growing and you will actively contribute in hiring and onboarding engineers.
  • Engage and improve our engineering culture by leading team-strengthening activities, such as offsites, hackathons, cross-team projects, and knowledge-sharing sessions
You’ll be great for this role if
  • You have 7+ years of software development experience and 1+ years working as Engineering Manager or Tech Lead
  • You have solid experience in mobile app development for iOS and Android platforms and have a deep understanding of the mobile landscape, industry trends, and user expectations.
  • Experienced leading co-located and remote agile teams.
  • Prior experience in building and supporting high-scale, and high-availability systems
  • You value and understand the importance of cross-functional team spirit vs. traditional expert-based organisations and are comfortable delivering and communicating with global teams
  • You are skilled in stakeholder management; effectively fostering seamless collaboration with cross-functional teams including Product Managers and Product Designers, to align technical initiatives with overarching business goals
  • You care about empowering people and have proven leadership experience with the ability to coach, motivate, and inspire the team
  • Ability to provide clear input, guide, challenge, and empower the team to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • You are an empathetic, strong communicator and active listener who is able to apply development and feedback frameworks with an adaptive, servant leadership style
