The Elastic Search AI Platform, used by more than 50% of the Fortune 500, brings together the precision of search and the intelligence of AI to enable everyone to accelerate the results that matter. By taking advantage of all structured and unstructured data — securing and protecting private information more effectively — Elastic’s complete, cloud-based solutions for search, security, and observability help organizations deliver on the promise of AI.

The Role

The Observability team develops solutions that focus on Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) who run infrastructure and services supporting user applications. With the rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) and the increasing number of requests generated by applications integrating them, Ops teams need to instrument their applications to be able to monitor the usage of such services.

The team is looking for a Python engineer, with experience in instrumentation and an interest in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), to build LLMs telemetry collectors.  You will be joining the Knowledge team and working with engineers across the engineering team to evolve our APM agents and contribute to the OpenTelemetry community.

  • Designing and implementing changes to the APM data model
  • Working and integrating with the second largest CNCF project, Open Telemetry
  • Collaborating and designing cross-language / cross-agent concepts, algorithms and approaches
  • Working within Python language internals to provide deep, but invisible, integrations with other Python libraries and frameworks
  • Participating in the solution maintenance, assisting support teams to tackle customer problems
What you will bring along
  • Professional backend Python experience
  • Knowledge of Python web frameworks and ecosystem
  • Experience working on an open-source project with a large community
  • Real interest in GenAI
  • Ability to work independently in a globally distributed team

What would be a great addition
  • Previous experience developing APM products
  • Experience or knowledge in OpenTelemetry
  • Ability to write specifications and lead discussions about them
  • Experience with other languages (node.js, Java, Go, C#, PHP)
