We are looking to hire ambitious, and value-adding talent to join Modulr, the fastest growing payments business in the UK and Europe, to drive our European Operations, based in Amsterdam.

Our payments expertise and extensive product capability also enables us to build tailored solutions to solve complex payment problems for hundreds of clients in a range of industries, including Travel, Merchant Payments, Lending, Wage Advance, and Investment & Wealth.
We are deeply integrated into the payment eco-system. In the UK, we are direct participants of Faster Payments and Bacs, and hold settlement accounts at the Bank of England. Our payment network connectivity includes CHAPS, Open Banking, SEPA, SWIFT and account issuance in 11 currencies. We are principal issuing members of Visa and Mastercard across UK and Europe.
Our regulatory permissions and governance structure underpin our business. We are regulated and supervised as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution (AEMI) in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority and in the Netherlands by De Nederlandsche Bank.
Our founding team has a wealth of experience in the payments industry and growing successful businesses. Modulr is backed by the venture arms of payments giants PayPal and FIS, as well as growth investors Blenheim Chalcot, General Atlantic, Frog Capital and Highland Europe.
Modulr now has over 400 employees spread globally across offices in London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Mumbai.

The role
The Operations Director will be based in Amsterdam, NL reporting to the General Manager, Europe, who is also based in Amsterdam.
Key responsibilities
- With the General Manager, set and agree metrics for monitoring the European operations, monitor ongoing performance against metrics through data and reporting.
- Work with Group and local Risk and Compliance to identify, mitigate and monitor ongoing operational risk.
- Own the Safeguarding process of Modulr in Europe – including accountability for end-to-end process, working closely with the relevant operational team in the UK.
- Own the Outsourcing function of Modulr in Europe. This includes working with various teams across the business and the General Manager to maintain the governance framework.
- Monitor ongoing outsourcing arrangements and report performance as well as issues, concerns or risks to the Audit and Risk Committee.
- Work with service providers to identify improvements in service levels and processes – particularly where SLAs are not met.
- Assist with the review of processes and procedures to strive towards operational excellence.
- Understand key operational procedures and processes – e.g. money flow for the European operations.
- Lead a small team of Operations Analysts.
- Day-to-day operational and client activities.
About you
- 7+ years of experience in a role with payments experience.
- A strong understanding of payment processes and operations (safeguarding experience will be a bonus).
- An ability to adapt and lead in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
- A collaborative approach and strong influencing skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Languages: English – essential; Dutch, German, French or Spanish helpful.
