OPERATIONS ENGINEER (ASSET RELIABILITY)

The Asset Reliability team is responsible for executing planned and unplanned repairs, modifications, and upgrades of production equipment in Falcon, Dragon, Starship, and Starshield programs in Hawthorne.

Operations Engineers are at the core of day-to-day organization effectiveness. This role is responsible for creating processes, tools, and systems that increase efficiency and eliminate pain points. The Operations Engineer leverages machine and ERP data to perform analysis that maximizes effectiveness, eliminates waste, and helps define bold targets for improvement. This role plays a key part in maximizing critical production equipment availability, enabling SpaceX to rapidly pursue its mission to make life multiplanetary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage ERP and time-series databases to develop metrics to measure organization performance and drive targeted improvements
  • Collaborate with Maintenance leadership, technicians, and engineers to identify fundamental problems with systems, tools, and processes; then drive effective solutions
  • Utilize data to drive targeted machine, system, and process improvements that maximize equipment availability
  • Support digital tool and system creation that enhances team efficiency and effectiveness
  • Perform root cause analysis to drive improvement to equipment and processes
  • Plan and execute development projects in accordance with a customer focused roadmap
  • Serve as senior technical support for procurement, logistics, inventory and receiving functions in the organization
  • Conduct job walks with vendors, negotiate prices and hold vendors to project schedules
  • Own projects to optimize shop floor layout

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of professional or internship/project hands on experience in an manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of production equipment maintenance experience
  • 2+ years of supporting troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of experience with process improvement
  • Experience developing and implementing process improvements
  • Strong background with SQL and/or PowerBI
  • Familiarity with Python, C# or other programming languages
  • Experience with Industrial PLCs, such as Siemens, Beckhoff and Allen Bradley
  • Diverse experience with a wide variety of mechanical, fluids, and electrical components
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial machinery and electronics
  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate a high sense of urgency
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills
  • Excellent skill level using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), Smartsheet, Jira and other organizational software

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 30 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments as needed
  • Must be available to work extended hours and some weekends
  • Willing to travel for short trips as needed, up to 10% travel

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:    

Pay range:    Operations Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year    Operations Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year    

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
