Operations Engineer, Launch Strategy (Starship)

OPERATIONS ENGINEER, LAUNCH STRATEGY (STARSHIP)
The Starship Launch Strategy team supports launch operations through strategic planning, optimization of processes, and alignment of resources to tasks. In this role, you will lead cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to optimize production, test, launch, and recovery operations in a fast-paced environment. An opportunity for emerging leaders who can join teams and apply principles of operations engineering, operations research, industrial engineering, and data analytics to complex optimization and simulation problems. We are searching for qualified engineers who can conduct complex problem analysis, and steer and execute strategic decisions within production.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage Starship launch manifest; identify and attack launch engineering rate blockers
- Analyze short/long-term risks and trends to inform the launch manifest, define critical path, and drive upstream production targets
- Engage with teams across the company to implement hardware system changes, process improvements, and automation as needed to improve schedule, cost, efficiency, and ultimately safety
- Work closely with leaders across vehicle, pad, and software engineering teams to develop lowest-cost-to-orbit operations
- Project manage cross-departmental initiatives in launch, production, supply chain, engineering, operations, finance, mission management, sales, and Starlink
- Collaborate with executive staff on program-level view of Starship launch manifest
- Get hands on, lead by example to get projects completed rapidly
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, mathematics, or physics
- 1+ years of technical hands-on project experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proficiency in data analytics and automation; to include SQL, Power BI, Python/R, and Excel for analysis or modeling dynamic systems
- Proficiency with statistics, data analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and visualization
- Project management experience in high consequence/low margin engineering systems
- Experience with CAD software and discrete event modeling tools
- Experience with inventory, production, and capacity planning (including MRP/ERP systems)
- Experience as an industrial, operations, process or manufacturing engineer in a developmental environment
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, high stress environments
- Demonstrated ability in drafting executive communications
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is based in Starbase, TX (Brownsville, TX) and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to meet major milestones
- Must be able to travel - up to 10% work week travel may be required to other sites
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Operations Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Operations Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
