OPERATIONS ENGINEER (MARINE OPERATIONS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the readiness and safe operation of SpaceX’s support vessel fleet; oversee audit, manifest scheduling, financial planning, and other metrics related to business performance
  • Contribute to credentialing and regulatory inspection programs related to maintenance planning and operational scheduling
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance schedules related to Annual Operating Plan and manifest requirements
  • Manage financial performance related to vessel maintenance and readiness
  • Identify opportunities and collaborate across SpaceX to maximize integration and performance of the marine operations team
  • Manage contractor, spare parts and Purchase Order audits to ensure invoices match expected costs and work performed
  • Support periodic off-site repair or nominal maintenance of vessels such as periodic dry docking
  • Coordinate and refine Request for Proposal and maintenance contracting processes in collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • Provide on-mission support at sea when necessary for audits, training, and operational metrics
  • Ensure vessels and mariners and programs remain compliant to regulatory bodies including the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
  • Work with other recovery sub-teams to maximize overall mission success pertinent to SpaceX’s goals of recovery, reusability, and ultimate goal of making humans multi-planetary
  • Provide tactical support to Operations Manager and Senior Marine Operations Manager
  • Provide objective data with analysis of headcount utilization across the Marine Operations organization and work with Operations Manager and/or Marine Operations Senior Manager / Director
  • Provide payroll support across Marine Operations organization and seek ways to optimize process
  • Provide supply chain support and liase with supply chain organization to ensure that materials for marine operations assets are available and maintained satisfactorily.  Provide objective data to help optimize.
  • Review vessel operations and provide optimized voyage planning for all ports, support Operations Manager and Senior Marine Operations Manager with maintaining business relationships with entities that provide effective and efficient operations for SpaceX with options to increase scope

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, marine operations, naval architecture, or maritime studies; or bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of professional experience in marine transportation
  • 2+ years of professional experience in marine operations

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical discipline
  • USCG master license/certification
  • Current or past merchant mariner credential (MMC) with ability to renew
  • Professional experience working within compliance and/or management of 3+ vessels
  • Experience managing class I or class L vessels
  • Support engineering with objective analysis of life cycle sustainment strategies, assisting with optimizing data gathering and analysis
  • Super-user of computer based maintenance, vessel & personnel management (HELM)
  • Make recommendations and implementation plans for optimization of HELM across organization. Support compliance engineers with objective data for optimization of:
    • Support technical project management teams and purchasing with objective evidence of
    • Support, oversee risk analysis for marine operations Support Marine Operations as needed
  • Strong demonstrated organization and communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Position requires a Merchant Mariner credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with 46 CFR 16 and 49 CFR 40
  • Overall mental fitness with the ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment requiring prolonged mental concentration (under possible extended work hours)
  • 50-hour work weeks are typical, schedule varies depending on site operational needs, flexibility required

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Pay range:Operations Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

Operations Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per yearYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
