SHOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE...

Pure Storage is looking for a dynamic Operations Engineer to join our hyperscale line of business team, with experience managing hardware engineering projects from conception to release. This hybrid role includes key responsibilities of a Technical Program Manager, where you will collaborate closely with our storage solutions development teams to bring innovative products to market.  You’ll be responsible for managing hardware project schedules, identifying risks, and working directly with stakeholders to mitigate them. In this role, you’ll apply your expertise to develop independent recommendations that drive impactful decisions and actions.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...

  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Work closely with hardware engineering teams to ensure designs align with hyperscale customer deployment requirements, facilitating product qualifications, and managing key project milestones effectively.
  • Full Lifecycle Product Involvement: Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle, including design, documentation, eDVT (Engineering Design Validation Testing), failure analysis (FA), and support for custom hardware designs, ensuring end-to-end quality and efficiency.
  • Partner onboarding, Audits and Validation: Responsible for leading efforts to onboard and establish new contract manufacturers, as well as managing relationships with JDM/ODM partners.  Lead the review, audit, and validation of technical reports from Joint Design Manufacturers (JDM) and Contract Manufacturing partners, ensuring compliance with specifications and performance metrics. 
  • Technical Documentation and Reporting: Review detailed functional specifications at both the hardware and system level to ensure alignment with customer requirements. 
  • Schematic Design and Capture: Perform schematic capture and provide hardware design input, contributing to the development of new and innovative solutions tailored for hyperscale environments.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Engage with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives, to communicate engineering issues, project strategies, and dependencies clearly and concisely.
  • Process Improvement and Optimization: Continuously improve design and qualification processes to enhance operational efficiency, design consistency, and product robustness
  • Hyperscale Design Conformity: Provide valuable feedback to hardware engineering teams on the conformity of designs for hyperscale deployments, ensuring the hardware is optimized for large-scale environments and data center operations.
  • Risk Management and Mitigation: Use your expertise to manage risks, resolve issues, and develop effective mitigation strategies. Coordinate and lead efforts among cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of projects without compromising quality.
  • Exceptional Communication: Utilize your strong communication skills to articulate project strategies, engineering challenges, and technical details across all levels of the organization, ensuring alignment and clarity.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...

  • A degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years experience in managing hardware product releases.
  • Experience working at hyperscale hardware companies preferred (Storage, Server, Networking)
  • Strong NPI background to bring cutting edge products into the market
  • Knowledge of hardware design, x86 architectures and interfaces.
  • Ability to qualify x86 hardware at the electrical, SI, protocol and functional levels
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, Mfg. Test, and support to deliver high quality products to our customers
  • Strong knowledge of selecting x86 subcomponents, SSD’s, AC/DC Power supplies, and discrete power circuits
  • Assist in architecting complex systems, involving compute, storage and I/O
  • Experience implementing and automating HW qualification processes
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and debugging all aspects of hardware systems
  • Solid understanding of Major Bus/Signaling technology PCIe, Ethernet, Serial (SPI, I2C)
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, technical development environment
  • Technical aptitude, as evidenced by BS CS/EE, or related experience in technical/quantitative fields - or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expertise in Agile and Waterfall Release Processes
  • Customer service focus, with the ability to communicate with highly technical management teams.
  • A team player and creative thinker who is able to lead technical teams, cross functional groups and vendors.
  • Sound organizational, project management, communication skills and product lifecycle knowledge.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities efficiently.

You will be based in Santa Clara, CA. As this is an office-centric role, you are expected to be present in the office for 4 days a week. As outlined in Pure's Hybrid Work Policy, there will be variations over periods of time, depending on business need.

The annual base salary range is: $207,000 - $312,000. 

Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. 

This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
