Job Description: 

We’re hiring a Packaging Engineer II to join our world-class team here at HelloFresh. You will ... 

• Work with vendors and the Packaging Strategy team to test and qualify packaging designs to expand the Packaging supply chain to enable top-line box growth
• Manage the planning and execution of business critical packaging testing out of the Packaging Laboratory based in our Newark, NJ distribution center
• Oversee thermodynamic testing to validate and qualify cold chain packaging systems
• Test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet functional parameters, cost targets, fulfillment, and shipping requirements
• Help provide packaging solutions to HelloFresh’s innovative launch of new products, services offerings, and expansion into new categories and markets.
• Conduct technical and scientific tests to gain further insights into packaging strategies, packaging material(s) comparison, and various other ad-hoc packaging research & development projects.
• Conduct packaging optimization testing to support the development and commercialization of future packaging
• Lead prototype development for new concepts and testing
• Complete and communicate test reports to Packaging Strategy and Engineering teams, as well as cross functionally
• Work with vendors to obtain packaging material specifications and manage internal specification process of documentation
• Responsible for packaging lab upkeep and equipment calibration and maintenance
• Manage Packaging Engineering Internship Program when applicable.

At a minimum, you have... 

• 2-4 years of relevant work experience in packaging engineering/science.
• Undergraduate degree in Packaging Science, Engineering, or other relevant area of study. 
• Strong passion for packaging science
• Proven technical expertise in packaging materials testing, most notably in ISTA-certified testing methodologies,  gained through industry experience
• Ability to work with ambiguous or abstract concepts/information and synthesize options for HelloFresh and our management to incorporate into future decision making.
• Excellent excel and analytical skills to create various databases and spreadsheets
• Experience with end to end R&D and packaging innovation projects
• General knowledge of or interest in learning more about fast-paced startup and/or the food and beverage industry
• Ability to work in a packaging lab environment where you will be asked to lift heavy packages up to 50lbs
