Packaging Lab Technician

Shift: Mon-Fri, 9am-5:30pm
What you’ll do:
- Assist in performing packaging tests using internal and industry-standard protocols (International Safe Transit Association, American Society for Testing and Materials) to produce data and detailed reports.
- Prepare and handle test samples, including dynamic, cold chain, and pharmacy samples, ensuring all packaging conforms to the dimensional, quantity, and other specifications established by testing standards.
- Communication of test status and feedback on issues to Lab Manager.
- Identify, recommend, and assist with process/equipment improvements for optimizing the testing process.
- Handle lab inventory for dry and frozen products and packaging materials in addition to collaborating with Inventory Control for the donation of eligible products post testing.
- Maintain a clean and organized lab environment and ensure that the methodology is implemented in all areas of the lab
- Inspect lab equipment regularly, maintain records of preventive maintenance and calibration, and schedule these activities to ensure minimal system downtime in the lab.
- Conduct safety audits and collaborate with the safety team to develop ideas for improving safety measures.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Experience working with packaging, in a quality function, or e-commerce operations.
- Basic understanding of lean methodologies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Must be capable to repeatedly lift 49lbs, team lift 50 -100lbs, and become accustomed to prolonged periods of standing.
- Able to meet tight time limitations while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in both a team and independently, self-motivated, and comfortable handling ambiguity.
- Convey efficiently (verbal and written) with internal and external collaborators.
- Confirmed analytical and quantitative skills, using critical thinking to analyze data and provide recommendations.
- Willing to be trained on packaging test and PIT equipment i.e. Compression tester, Drop Tester, Vibration Tester, Environmental Chamber, Cherry Order Pick, Movexx, Pallet Jack etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with packaging design, materials, and/or testing (ISTA and ASTM).
- Proficient in programming data loggers for use in cold chain tests and capable of downloading the raw data for analysis post-test.
- SQL, Tableau, and Smartsheet experience (or willing to learning) is a plus.
- Experience with safe lifting and/or dry ice handling
- Experience with operating packaging test and PIT equipment
