About the job

As a Platform Engineer on the Infrastructure Security team at Segment, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the security, reliability, and scalability of our cloud-native infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain security solutions that protect our systems and data against evolving threats. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge security program within a dynamic and rapidly growing organization.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Design, implement, and maintain security controls and configurations for Segment's cloud-native infrastructure on AWS.
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to integrate security best practices into the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Design and maintain secure perimeter access solutions to control and monitor external and internal access to Segment's systems.
  • Manage and enhance identity and access management solutions and controls to ensure least privilege access across all environments.
  • Lead the design and implementation of robust secrets management solutions to securely store, access, and rotate sensitive credentials and API keys across the infrastructure.
  • Champion the adoption of security-focused "shift left" practices within the development lifecycle, advocating for early integration of security considerations into code development and deployment processes.
  • Contribute to security awareness and training initiatives to foster a culture of security across the organization.
Qualifications

Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Twilio values diverse experiences in other industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. While having “desired” qualifications make for a strong candidate, we encourage applicants with alternative experiences to also apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

  • 2+ years experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language.
  • Proven experience in working in the devops space designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions, preferably within a cloud-based SaaS environment.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or Java.
  • Proficiency in IaC, Kubernetes, and AWS concepts, best practices, and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex security issues.
  • Participate in team on-call rotations.
  • Solid problem-solving skills, proactive attitude, and ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.

Desired:

  • Solid understanding of network protocols, TCP/IP stack, and security principles.
  • Experience with CloudCustodian, Orca, Anchor, and related security tools.
