Joining the Infrastructure and Platform Engineering department in the wider Infrastructure, Reliability & Developer Experience area, we provide technology platform services crucial to the operations of all OVO Group systems and companies, all driving OVO’s members towards zero-carbon living.
This role in a nutshell:
We’re looking for a talented Platform SRE.
Your key outcomes will be:
- Be responsible for maintaining our data messaging architecture, based around Kafka (external managed service), using site reliability engineering best practices
- Ensuring our central kafka architecture is able to scale efficiently
- Developing best practices, tools, and libraries to make Kafka easier to use and more reliable for product teams
- Help troubleshooting Kafka issues
- Performing platform maintenance and operational activities
- Input into infrastructure platform strategy
- Managing and maintaining cyber security controls
- Incident response, on-call a possibility on a team rota
- Be the go-to expert
- Proactively work with vendors to secure additional support as needed and ensure their activities are coordinated to ensure minimal downtime and risk to business continuity
You’ll be a successful Platform SRE at OVO if you…
- Experience with Kafka
- Software Engineering experience
- Demonstrable cloud experience and knowledge (e.g. GCP)
- Security engineering including key concepts are ideal
- Knowledge of DevOps principles, practices and tooling
- BigQuery experience a bonus
- Excellent communication skills
- Practical knowledge of infrastructure operations and service management

We’ll pay you between £55,000 and £95,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, no problem, we're still keen to speak to you.
