Portfolio Impact Associate

Position Overview
The Portfolio Impact Associate’s primary role is supporting our direct and underlying portfolio companies through strategic business and corporate development. The Portfolio Impact team spends considerable time engaging with the firm’s portfolio companies to understand their priorities and builds a network relevant to their interests. The team then leverages this network to forge mutually beneficial connections for the firms’ portfolio companies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop a network of deep corporate relationships with C-and SVP-level executives at F1000 and top software and internet companies
- Source, curate, introduce and connect partners and portfolio companies to the StepStone network through introductions, meetings, corporate briefings, events, and conferences
- Proactively scout and evaluate early-stage technology companies to determine fit with StepStone’s network for venture managers
- Engage with talented executives seeking jobs with StepStone portfolio companies and facilitate introductions as appropriate
- Organize events that help connect startups and interested parties, such as our Corporate Briefings and Tech Days
- Oversee and contribute to the production of high-quality market analysis and insights for StepStone’s corporate partners
- Oversee various operational components of the Portfolio Impact program, including but not limited to the group’s CRM
- Engage & befriend StepStone team members to leverage their networks to strengthen our outreach efforts for our venture fund partners
- Support Partners and other senior team members in fundraising efforts and opportunistically source prospective Limited Partner leads
- Help manage and mentor junior members of team (if applicable)
- Organize and oversee the Intern program within Portfolio Impact
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- BA/BS degree required
- Exposure to technology and/or venture capital strongly preferred
- Demonstrated track record of academic and professional success
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Compelling and charismatic communicator who is comfortable interfacing with senior executives from portfolio companies or members of StepStone’s corporate network
- Strong understanding of and interest in technology and venture ecosystem; pays close attention to technology trends and can articulate prospective long-term implications for the industry
- Strong sense of empathy for industry executives and portfolio companies – able to distill what is most important for either side of an engagement and find ways to satisfy everyone’s interests
- Run simultaneous engagements and processes, across the entire portfolio, with a balance of responsiveness and thoughtfulness
- Ability to travel approximately 10-20%
Other Attributes:
- Leadership experience
- High proficiency in Word, Power Point and Excel
- Developed investment judgment with demonstrable understanding of risk/reward tradeoffs
- Flexibility—StepStone is an entrepreneurial organization; all professionals are expected to perform multiple functions as the firm continues to grow and develop
