Your role and your team:

You will report directly to the Engineering Manager responsible for the Design Engineers within the Aerostructures and Landing Gear Team. The Aerostructures and Landing Gear Team is one of the functions within the Lilium organization, its members being responsible for designing and developing among others the airframe structure, landing gear, propulsion mounting structure and battery integration of our aircraft across the entire life cycle - from concept through to detailed design, testing and into serial production.

As the Principal Design Engineer for Aircraft Structure, you will be part of an interdisciplinary IPT (Integrated Project Team) supporting and/or leading the ongoing development and testing of the Aircraft primary and secondary structure along with several additional systems of our Lilium Jet from prototype into serial production.

From metallic or composite parts design to mechanical systems development and testing you'll play a key role in bringing our innovative aircraft to life.

Your Day to Day:

· Support and/or lead the ongoing development of the aircraft structure and its Validation & Verification Test Pyramid from concept to certification, resolving any design, manufacturing, assembly and certification issues along the way

· Define, coordinate and lead the development of test-relevant documents (e.g. test requirements, test plans, etc.) and test-relevant activities (e.g. clarification of test-envelope for coupon-tests up to full-scale-tests) and closely interact with the test-team

· Support corresponding certification activities and create certification related documentation

· Support and/or lead the definition and management of interfaces with other systems

· Support the ongoing definition of the system level requirements and give guidance in breaking them down to the next levels

· Provide technical leadership and propose innovative solutions to arising issues

· Supplier management and coordination

· Actively support the development of our engineers

· Take active part in the hiring process and help us find excellent engineers

· Work on any ad hoc related projects or tasks

Your profile:

· Masters Degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical/Vehicle Engineering (aerospace specialization)

· 15+ years’ experience in aircraft structure development and testing is required

· Having followed at least one aircraft program from the early development stage to achieving type certification is beneficial

· Proven experience with design principles of metallic and composite structures is required

· Basic understanding of static stress and fatigue sizing is required

· Extensive experience with testing of aircraft structure is required

· Extensive experience with working with various suppliers and managing deliverables is required

· Extensive experience with aircraft certification specifications and processes is required

· Basic knowledge of a CAD system is required (Siemens NX is preferred)

· Experience developing and working to system requirements is beneficial

· Good knowledge of thermal and electrical engineering principles is beneficial

· Leadership experience is beneficial

· Strong motivation to help build and shape our organization, structures and processes is required

· High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required

· Target-oriented, driven workstyle with analytic problem solving skills is required

· Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required

· Fluent English language skills are essential, Fluent German or any other language is beneficial
