We are looking for a Principal Digital UX Designer who has a deep passion for creating elevated digital experiences, driving innovation, and leads with a customer centric lens.

The Role:

The Principal Digital UX Designer will assume a strategic leadership role within the Digital Studio team, leading UX strategy and UX design for Okta’s digital properties. They will leverage research and data to derive strategic insights, identify opportunities to optimize user experiences, increase user engagement, and inspire our target audiences to choose Okta as their Identity solution. They will lead UX as a function and collaborate with a team of content strategists, designers, copywriters, developers, and web producers to deliver a world class digital experience. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Digital Leadership: Lead the formulation and execution of visionary UX strategies across Okta’s digital properties, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and customer needs. Leverage user research and data analytics to identify opportunities for growth that make the largest impact across the business. Will own projects and provide direction to internal UX designers as well as external agencies. 

Lead the Design System: Spearhead the ongoing evolution of the design system by identifying opportunities, ideating, designing, and implementing components that support business needs and enhance the user’s experience. Expand the design system to support evolving business needs, drive new interaction approaches, and lead the organization on the innovation journey together. Partner cross functionally to build a scalable, robust, and streamlined design system that is easy to maintain and update. 

Prototyping & Ideation: Drive the development of digital prototypes to test multiple solutions and get buy-in prior to moving to development. 

Performance Metrics & Optimization: Define, monitor, and optimize high-level digital UX performance metrics on Okta’s digital properties, ensuring continuous enhancement of user engagement, satisfaction, and conversion.

Competitive Analysis: Conduct and share routine analyses of digital experiences, identifying industry trends and deriving insights to shape strategic recommendations to elevate user experiences across Okta’s digital properties.

Executive Communication: Effectively communicate and present intricate digital strategies, research insights, and UX design rationale to executive stakeholders. Will play a key role in influencing strategic experience decisions across Okta’s digital properties. 

Vision through execution: At Okta we believe in the motto “Show, don’t tell”. Must be willing to jump into Figma to inspire, brainstorm, explore, and create new and innovative solutions with the team.  

 

Required Skills & Experience:

Experience: 10+ years of significant experience in a senior or principal UX designer role, specializing in digital experiences for B2B, within a tech or SaaS environment.

Portfolio: Exceptional portfolio demonstrating a profound understanding and application of strategic thinking and user-centered digital design solutions. Experience in information architecture, buyer and customer journeys, creating design systems and component design, and interaction design. 

Analytical & Strategic Skills: Advanced analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a knack for translating complex insights into transformative digital experience strategies.

Leadership Skills: A strong UX leader that can guide a team of UX designers to translate business requirements and user stories into wireframes. 

Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the capability to articulate sophisticated digital concepts and strategies effectively to diverse audiences ranging from executives, business stakeholders to designers and developers. 

Collaborator: Thrives working in a cross-functional team environment with UX/UI/visual designers, writers, product owners, PM, developers, web producers, and strategists. Navigates challenging conversations seamlessly, understands team dynamics and is able to bring positive vibes in a fast paced environment. 

Technological Proficiency: Mastery of design software, e.g. Figma. Working knowledge of HTML/CSS, JavaScript and contemporary web technologies (Lottie animation) a plus.

Education: A Bachelor’s or higher degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field; advanced certifications in UX Strategy or Digital Experience a plus. #LI-Remote

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$142,000—$212,000 USD The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $158,000—$238,000 USD
