The Principal, Strategic Global Communications, will oversee development and execution of an integrated global strategy for Pinterest’s expanding communications team. This leadership role is pivotal in enhancing our global brand presence and supporting business growth as Pinterest pursues a growing international monetisation strategy. The ideal candidate will work with the US-based team to craft and oversee implementation of strategic communication plans tied to global campaigns and events.
What you’ll do:
- Oversee the creation and distribution of all communication materials to ensure consistency and alignment with the company’s strategic goals across multiple countries, channels and platforms.
- Assist in identifying and planning global events featuring company executives and focused on business priorities and company mission.
- Manage, cultivate and own the most important media relationships, partners and external agencies globally, ensuring coherent and tailored messaging. Teach and lead more junior members of the team on how to manage these relationships and difficult media inbounds.
- Lead highly visible, cross-functional work and project streams within the Communications team; collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, content, and the leadership team to ensure the communications strategy effectively reflects the company’s values and priorities.
- Recognise and plan for crisis situations proactively; have demonstrated experience with reactive crisis communications strategy as well as developing these skill sets in more junior members of the team.
- Provide counsel and strategic communications expertise to VP’s and most senior leaders at the company, including the Executive team.
- Influence Pinterest’s communications strategy and execution across the organisation and enabling the communications team to bring this work to light through your expertise and experience.
- Monitor and analyse communication campaign performance and media coverage, adjusting strategies as necessary to optimise reach and impact underneath the marketing and communications organisation.
- Oversee global budget allocation across priority markets and regions as identified by the business.
- Stay current on global communication trends and emerging technologies, continuously integrating innovative practices into communication plans.
- Mentor and develop a diverse team of communication professionals across the globe, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in a communications role, with at least 5+ years in a distinguished position providing expertise across a multi-national team.
- Demonstrated experience in developing strategic communications plans that engage diverse audiences and achieve business goals.
- Strong leadership skills and experience in building and motivating teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. At this level, we expect this individual to eventually oversee and manage a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for strong, concise writing.
- Proven ability to manage senior stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively across departments.
- Prior people management experience a plus.
