Join us! The GoFundMe team is searching for a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Governance Specialist to join our data team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and security of our data assets. As a Principal Data Governance Specialist, you will develop and implement data governance strategies, policies, and best practices to support data quality, compliance, and data management initiatives. You will define clear responsibilities and ensure data quality, thus facilitating better decision-making and enhancing the overall effectiveness of data utilization. Your expertise and hands on approach will be instrumental in maintaining data trustworthiness and reliability, enabling us to make informed decisions and drive business growth.

  • Data Governance Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with GoFundMe's objectives and regulatory requirements. 
  • Data Policies and Procedures: Establish and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data accuracy, privacy, and security.
  • Data Quality Management: Implement data quality frameworks and processes to monitor and improve data quality throughout the organization.
  • Metadata Management: Define and manage metadata standards to facilitate data discovery, lineage, and understanding.
  • Data Compliance: Ensure data compliance with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry-specific standards.
  • Data Catalog: Maintain a centralized data catalog that documents data assets, their usage, and ownership.
  • Data Stewardship: Collaborate with business units to identify data stewards and establish data ownership and accountability.
  • Data Training and Awareness: Conduct training sessions and raise awareness across the organization about data governance best practices.
  • Data Security: Work closely with IT and security teams to implement data security measures and access controls.
  • Data Governance Metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of data governance efforts.
  • Research and stay up to date on newest approaches and solutions available for  data quality management and metadata management.

You…

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative science, research or data-related field (Master's preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in data governance or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles, data quality management, and data protection regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of ETL processes and best practices
  • Experience business intelligence and  reporting using tools such as SQL and Looker (or Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Experience with Customer Data Platforms (mParticle, Segment, Rudderstack)
  • Have a good understanding of databases and best practices in optimizing queries and anomaly detection
  • Have experience working with data warehousing solutions like Redshift or Snowflake
  • Familiarity with data management tools and technologies.
  • Understanding of data science and machine learning technologies 
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $240,000 - $330,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.  As this is a remote position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
