Principal Technologist (PT) – Role OverviewThe Pure Storage Principal Technologist (PT) is a senior technical thought leader within the SE Specialist organization, responsible for driving the most complex strategic pursuits, enabling field excellence, and advancing Pure’s technical and business positioning across the region. Acting as a trusted technical advisor and strategist, the PT bridges customers, field teams, and HQ to drive innovation, competitive differentiation, and measurable business impact.
The PT combines mastery of technical selling, business acumen, and executive engagement to lead from the front in high-value opportunities. This role requires a deep understanding of customer industries, IT strategies, and application architectures operating comfortably from boardroom to data center, influencing both C-suite decisions and technical execution.
The PT also acts as a field-to-HQ conduit, championing regional insights, delivering structured feedback to product and program teams, and driving the execution of global strategic initiatives such as Fusion adoption, EDC enablement, and product readiness programs.
Above all, the PT is an organizational multiplier, uplifting the technical community through coaching, enablement, and mentorship, and equipping the broader field with repeatable patterns for technical and business success.
Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Technical Leadership: Deliver Business ResultsProvide senior technical leadership for the most critical and strategic opportunities across the region, ensuring Pure achieves the technical win through differentiated architecture, business value, and competitive strategy. The primary measure of success is your ability to support your region in achieving bookings goals. Convert proactive reach out to engagement and drive company financial performance. Assist core teams in achieving their M1 and M2 targets. To meet expectations, your region should achieve their revenue targets.
- Lead complex pursuits, aligning Pure’s platform capabilities to customer outcomes.
- Develop and articulate value propositions that connect technology to measurable business impact (ROI, agility, sustainability, risk).
- Build a deep understanding of customer business models, key stakeholders, and application ecosystems.
- Anticipate competitive tactics and proactively position Pure’s technical and commercial differentiators.
- Lead tailored solution briefings, architectural reviews, and executive presentations for strategic accounts.
- Act as the trusted technical advisor for major customers and account teams.
Grow pipeline in strategic workloads by creating, shaping, and influencing early-stage opportunities across AI, Analytics, Cyber Resilience, Databases, and Modern Virtualization.
- Identify workload demand and shape early technical direction in top accounts.
- Conduct targeted workload workshops that consistently convert into new opportunities.
- Develop account-specific workload strategies and uncover gaps that translate into pipeline.
- Guide early solution design to ensure Pure is positioned as the preferred architecture.
Drive the regional adoption of HQ technical initiatives and act as the primary conduit back to Product Management, ensuring customer insights, competitive gaps, and field requirements directly shape product direction.
Execution of HQ Programs
- Act as the regional champion for EDC, delivering differentiated messaging, persona-based pitches, and tailored demos.
- Evangelize Pure’s platform architecture and roadmap through customer and marketing events.
- Align regional SE teams to new releases, feature updates, and performance commitments through structured communication and training.
- Track and report field progress on strategic initiatives, identifying gaps, identify blockers and drive cross-functional alignment to ensure program success.
RFE Ownership
- The PT plays a critical role in shaping Pure’s product roadmap by bringing data-backed, customer-aligned insights from the field.
- Develop deep awareness of regional customer architectures, partner practices, operational challenges, and vertical trends.
- Identify gaps that materially impact opportunity progression or competitive position.
- Assess the addressable market (TAM) and potential revenue impact of requested features.
- Distinguish one-off asks from recurring, high-impact needs across customers or workloads.
- Evaluate competitive implications and urgency.
Operates as a visionary influencer who elevates Pure’s presence across customers, partners, and the broader ecosystem.
- Represent Pure as the regional technical authority across executive briefings, strategic customer engagements, industry events, alliances, and community forums.
- Drive regional thought leadership by creating high-quality content such as blogs, webinars, demos, technical deep dives, whitepapers, and field-facing playbooks.
- Amplify Pure’s innovation story through consistent presence at Pure events, marketing activities, and technology showcases.
- Act as a force multiplier for SEs and FSAs by coaching them in live opportunities, shaping solution direction, and reinforcing best-practice discovery and qualification.
- Conduct technical clinics, deal reviews, and post-mortem debriefs to elevate field execution and shorten learning cycles.
- Deliver ongoing workshops and enablement sessions that strengthen SE technical depth, storytelling, and business acumen.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE…
Qualifications and Requirements
- Highly Motivated/Independent and self-starting
- Expert level knowledge of IT industry trends, broad and deep IT industry experience for Korea and APJ, and a high degree of business acumen.
- Must be able to work in cross-functional teams in an autonomous manner and have a proven track record of working on and leading large IT transformation projects.
- Must have a strong understanding of data and storage technology. (deep understanding of modern IT architecture, applications architecture and integration, Agile application development and DevOps methods, CI/CD, automation principles, hybrid cloud architecture, infrastructure operations, project management, IT security, and data protection).
- Ability to apply experience and confidence to take ownership of Pure’s solution and create structure when needed to deal with ambiguity or no existing Pure offering with which to fulfill the customer’s requirements is a must.
- Must have a high degree of diplomacy and a strong emotional quotient.
- A customer-first mentality and focus, with a passion to improve our customer’s business through Pure’s unique technology and business value
- Product experience across a broad cross-section of technology vendors and specific experience in flash storage technologies
- Strong executive presence and ability to evangelize concepts to a wide range of personas and dispositions
- Proficient in driving for results with a sense of accountability and ability to change pace and focus in dynamically evolving hyper-competitive environment
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years (industry relevant) vendor (pre-sales, technical) experience covering the Korea and APJ region
- 7+ years business experience with relevant storage, computer applications, File/Object, high performance architectures.
- Participation in technical community leadership programs such as VMware vExpert, Microsoft MVP, Cisco Champion etc
- End-user technology operations or architecture role experience
- Experience selling to large enterprise accounts in a presales technical role
- Proficiency in English and Korean is required.
