The Privacy team is responsible for implementing and maintaining a world class privacy program and supporting our product and engineering work to deliver a respected and trusted experience to the Airbnb community and to maintain compliance with all applicable privacy & data protection laws.

The Difference You Will Make:

As Privacy Compliance Manager, you’ll be focused on championing privacy at Airbnb through building a strong and scalable compliance program. You will work with the Global risk and compliance team to support company-wide compliance initiatives.  Success in this role is measured by the ability to effectively prioritize and execute projects related to privacy, meet deadlines in a matrixed organization, identify opportunities through data analysis, and develop operational concepts. The role requires being self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with limited guidance. Additionally, the role involves regularly presenting to senior leadership and utilizing negotiation skills to achieve desired outcomes. Specialized expertise in privacy, risk, and compliance is essential for this role.

A Typical Day: 

As a key member of the Privacy team, you will partner with other privacy professionals across the company to:

  • Build and maintain a strategic compliance function that supports cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders across various teams.
  • Collaborate with Privacy and business teams to evaluate processes to identify privacy risks and issues.
  • Develop compliance controls and remediation plans to address key risks.
  • Work closely with analytics and engineering teams to build compliance reports, dashboards and insights. Be data driven and comfortable in delivering measurable compliance insights from ideation to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain knowledge across all areas of Privacy, such as data subject rights processing, records of processing activities and impact assessments, web trackers and cookies, customer and regulatory engagements, and more. 
  • Collaborate with the global risk and compliance team, providing support in the execution of privacy program functions and operations. Assist in various tasks under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Work closely with operations, product, engineering, legal, and other stakeholders to support the successful delivery of the privacy compliance program.
  • Develop content and present program area and initiative status to leadership on an ongoing basis. Create reports and presentations to communicate the progress and status of program areas and initiatives.
  • Provide key contributions to the overall global privacy strategy, assisting in program design and contributing to the development of implementation plans.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks that impact other areas of the privacy team and cross-functional stakeholders, such as communication and anti-discrimination initiatives. Contribute to risk assessment and collaborate with relevant teams to implement mitigation strategies.
  • This role requires building and maintaining relationships with the following stakeholders outside your reporting line: Global Risk and Compliance, Internal Audit, Privacy Engineering, Data Science and Analytics, Privacy Legal Team, All Business Units.

Your Expertise:

  • 8+ years of program or project management experience preferably in a global B2C technology company.
  • 3+ years as a privacy professional with an understanding of privacy, risk and/or security operations and industry frameworks and standards (NIST, ISO, GAPP, etc.).
  • Collaboration, partnership, and influencing skills, demonstrating an ability to work effectively in a global environment with colleagues from multiple locations and time zones. Contribute to driving consensus and delivering results in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to translate policy and business requirements, collaborating with business stakeholders at all levels to create solutions.
  • Ability to work with product and technology teams, contributing to the definition of requirements and supporting the implementation of effective technical tools. Understanding of how product, technology, and design teams typically operate.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing privacy compliance in complex technology systems and fast-paced organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time with good time management and prioritize tasks and work autonomously in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

Bonus Points:

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), or equivalent professional certification is not required, but preferred.
  • Experience with data analytics tools (Tableau, Superset) preferred.
  • Certified Compliance Professional is not required, but preferred.
  • BA/BS degree

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. How We'll Take Care of You:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.  

Pay Range$125,000—$155,000 USD
