About the roleWe are looking for a versatile and dynamic attorney to join us as our first Privacy Counsel at Crunchyroll. You'll partner with our lead Product Counsel, alongside the rest of our Legal team, InfoSec teams, and external partners, to provide practical, applicable legal guidance under global privacy laws for our key initiatives aimed at improving privacy, data use, and protection. Reporting directly to our General Counsel, you'll help shape our strategies regarding privacy, data utilization, and safeguarding as we scale internationally at a fast pace.
- You will work with your fellow legal colleagues as an invaluable resource on data use and privacy issues as they negotiate commercial and other licensing deals to support our initiatives, and will have an impact on our service as we continue to grow internationally.
- You will work with our Product Counsel team to guide privacy-forward product development and evaluate the impact of privacy laws and regulatory guidance on our roadmap.
- You will have and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data privacy and protection laws (including state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR, and other global privacy laws) and will guide high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with team members across our business, legal, security and other departments.

- You have 8+ years of relevant experience, offering practical counseling and legal guidance across privacy, regulatory, AI, and compliance domains.
- You have worked in-house or at a top-tier law firm supporting streaming, entertainment, or tech companies.
- Juris Doctor and active membership in good standing with the California or New York Bar.
- You have practical knowledge of the digital VOD, TV, film, and tech industries.
- You have executive-communication skills, excelling in high-volume environments, and eagerly embracing every opportunity.
- You can influence, establish relationships, and build trust with internal and external partners.
- You have a curious mindset, enjoy problem-solving, and excel in navigating emerging legal landscapes, recognizing their inherent complexities and risks.
- You stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments to inform strategic decision-making.
- A fantastic sense of humor and a willingness to tackle challenges head-on are definite assets!

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees.
