As Privacy Counsel, you will play a key role in overseeing the company’s privacy policies and practices, ensuring compliance with international, federal, and state privacy laws and regulations relevant to the company's operations. The role involves advising on legal matters related to privacy, data protection, and data security, conducting privacy assessments and audits, and serving as a point of contact for privacy inquiries from customers, partners, and regulatory bodies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, providing legal advice that balances legal risks and business strategies. The Job…

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's privacy policies and procedures in compliance with GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other relevant privacy laws and regulations.
  • Provide legal guidance on product development, feature updates, and platform initiatives, ensuring compliance with U.S. and international laws and regulations, with a focus on privacy and consumer protection.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new and existing products and services.
  • Collaborate with the legal team on review and negotiation of contracts and DPAs with customers, partners, and vendors, focusing on data protection and privacy requirements.
  • Monitor changes in privacy laws and regulations and advise on adaptation strategies.
  • Manage data subject access requests, cookie compliance, complaints, and breaches in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Provide training and awareness programs on privacy and data protection to employees.
  • Collaborate with the security team to ensure alignment between privacy and security practices.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and data protection authorities as required.

You…

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state (CA preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in privacy law, preferably in the technology or SaaS industry.
  • Knowledge of U.S. and international privacy and data protection laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Ability to translate legal requirements into actionable guidance for innovative product and engineering teams.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach to problem-solving and someone who loves to build strong privacy programs.

Preferred skills...

  • Certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT.
  • Experience with both B2C and B2B SaaS business models and the specific privacy challenges they face.
  • Familiarity with Datagrail and Transcend.

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $153,000 - $207,000 + equity + benefits.  As this is a remote position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
