Quality Compounding Pharmacist Operations Manager

Our Opportunity: 

Chewy is looking for a Quality Compounding Pharmacist- Operations Manager, Quality to join our team to lead quality for the compounding pharmacy.  This role will work closely with other pharmacy operational leadership, the compounding pharmacy team, the head compounding pharmacist, and the pharmacist-in-charge, as well as cross-functionally with other pharmacy teams.     

What You’ll Do:  

  • Be responsible for all quality metrics including quality-related events, deviations/errors, and continuous quality improvement 
  • Serve as operational quality expert for the compounding pharmacy team 
  • Coordinate cross-functional customer service management and drive resolution of quality related customer service issues 
  • Oversee inventory and non-inventory receipts and evaluate new inventory/non-inventory requests 
  • Evaluate and implement quality assurance and quality control processes  
  • Monitor and track quality-related events and deviations/errors and lead investigations as necessary 
  • Partner with operational leadership to ensure effective training and re-training of compounding staff to ensure quality compounded preparations 
  • Identify corrective and preventive actions and implement up through verification of desired outcomes 
  • Monitor analytical testing program and partner with formulations manager and head compounding pharmacist to document and correct deviations, propose stability studies, and oversee finished compounded preparation release 
  • Focus on driving superior customer experience, ensuring Chewy compounding provides high quality compounding services using best practices 
  • Perform or oversee document audits for completeness and accuracy 
  • Author and present continuous quality improvement reports 
  • Partner with head compounding pharmacist and pharmacist in charge to drive continuous improvement efforts and lead implementation across shifts 
  • Collaborate with other pharmacy leadership (formulations, quality, compliance) to drive continuous operational improvement and communicate with other pharmacy departments on relevant changes or updates 
  • Coordinate with facilities to ensure proper equipment maintenance and calibration 
  • Other duties as assigned based on business need 

 

What You’ll Need: 

  • Ability to lead a team of direct reports 
  • Current Kentucky Pharmacist License (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe) 
  • Willing to gain any additional license, certifications, or verifications as required 
  • Effective communicator and leader for employees, direct reports, cross-functional teams and executive leadership 
  • Excitement for working in a fast-paced environment with high level of ambiguity and change 
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment including tight-fitting respirators  
  • Flexibility to work different shifts based on business need or travel as necessary 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must have visual acuity, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception 
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time 
  • Must be able to wear PPE for long periods of time when required 
  • Compounding team members may be exposed to hazardous chemicals used in the preparation of compounds (some are classified as hazardous and/or toxic by the National Institute for Safety and Health and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals) 
  • This position will require periods of sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching and walking 
  • Must be able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls 

Desired Experience: 

  • 3-5 Years Pharmacy Quality Experience 
  • 1-5 Years Compounding Experience 
  • Knowledge of principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding- specifically USP <795>, <800>, other USP general chapters, and best compounding practices
