Not as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal.  Working in Field Operations (part of OVO Metering) you’ll be part of a regional performance improvement team that aims to solve performance problems.  

This role in a nutshell:

As a specialist expert within the field you shall be working in close collaboration with the Field Services, Technical Compliance and Performance Improvement Team performing engagement visits across Field Services Engineers to provide technical coaching and support, improve their skills, knowledge and potential to deliver plan zero through our range of products and services whilst achieving better results more consistently.  

You’ll spend 80% of your time working directly alongside engineers focusing on a mixture of technical and performance helping them realise their potential, measuring technical quality and conformance against our procedures and accreditations whilst offering 1:2:1 coaching, advice and practical support that will drive up overall performance, completion rate, improve safety, reduce job time, prevent incidents and deliver a first class member experience whilst creating a dynamic OVO diversification culture around build for the future.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Work closely with our Field Services Team Managers to ensure the continuous improvement and performance of Engineers in all aspects of the role, together you shall remain focused on achieving shared key performance measures of success across our range of products and services
  • Perform a program of workplace engagement visits & desk top validations across the installation of all our in home products, assess technical knowledge and competency of Engineers against standards, provide support and advice to ensure every installation is a safe installation
  • Build trust and credibility with engineers by taking time to understand what is required in the specific coaching interaction, whilst identifying areas for development  and establish a focus that sets measures of success 
  • Focus completely on what the engineer is saying (and is not saying) to understand where Coaching might be most effective in addressing performance gaps, inconsistency in performance and/or unsafe working
  • Assist the engineers to deliver an unforgettable member experience through coaching them to create member engagement, focus on what the member is saying, their body language and surroundings to seek the opportunities to offer guidance support, advise and recommend further OVO services.
  • Identify / recommend development programs, remedial actions and continuous areas for development / improvement. Liaise with Team Managers to plan goals for engineers and design actions that inspire the engineer to achieve better results consistently. 
  • Work with Team Managers to identify ways you can improve your coaching style, skills and impact.  Maintain a two-way dialogue that instils sustainable ways to capture and respond positively to feedback and the results achieved through your Coaching intervention.
  • Providing support and guidance to operational leaders with business / procedure change and support teams with their implementation
  • Deliver technical event support through onsite reviews and information gathering, written reports and recommendations to enable Team Managers to achieve effective root cause analysis and preventive actions
  • Stay focused on what is important to achieve desired business results and determine where further Coaching might provide additional value.
  • Building on your advanced technical skill set and knowledge, assist in the delivery of diversification around further products and services, supporting Engineer training, upskill and continued coaching
  • Provide technical support in person and via the technical help line

You’ll be a successful Quality Development Coach at OVO if you…

  • Solid background and working knowledge of how Coaching can drive performance improvement in individuals and teams
  • Ability to build professional relationships quickly and reach common ground on measures for success and the purpose of Coaching to solve performance problems.
  • Confident individual with a sense of complete ease and naturalness in conversation with engineers and leaders about the benefits of Coaching
  • Active listener who is prepared to approach a performance problem without an agenda and can balance the logical, emotional and organic conversation simultaneously.
  • Great communication skills, oral & written, that ensures clarity of message and what is required to succeed.
  • Resilient individual who can work in a fast paced environment and has a learning orientation that role models self-development with a willingness to expend their own development plan/activities to continue to deliver across the role
  • Ability to identify and measure individuals performance through observation and engagement to form performance and risk analysis
  • A solid technical qualification base to enable the upskill and progression into additional plan zero products ; Dual Fuel Smart Meter Installation Qualification,  single phase of multi phase & CCN1 / MET1 is essential (min 3 years installation experience)
  • Willingness and ability to travel with occasional stay away from home

Ideally you’ll have: 

  • A recognised assessor qualification e.g. A1, A2 or D32, D33  or TQSE/TQFE
  • Investigation training with experience of conducting event reviews and information gathering
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in core competencies typically associated with Coaching.
