The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Scientist to join our team at the forefront of Principles of Learning research. You will be working alongside a world-class team of researchers and engineers to develop and advance the next generation of machine learning methods.

Key responsibilities:
  • Develop novel efficient machine learning methods. Investigate innovative, principled algorithmic and statistical approaches to accelerate training of large models. This may include curriculum design, training data selection, sequential ordering, and reweighting methods.
  • Build a foundation for the design of improved learning methods. Propose, contribute to, and lead research projects to develop a clearer and more precise understanding of the behavior of modern machine learning, with the aim of improving optimization and generalization performance.
  • Amplify impact. Translate research findings into practical methodologies by building and benchmarking prototypes that demonstrate performance and efficiency improvements and developing reusable libraries. Identify opportunities for your work to support other teams and contribute through internal collaborations. Share knowledge through publications, open source projects, and education.
About You

In order to set you up for success as a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
  • Strong publication record in top venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, COLT, ICLR)

In addition, the following would be an advantage: 

  • Proven ability to design and execute independent research projects
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with JAX, PyTorch, or similar machine learning platforms
  • Experience in driving new research ideas from conception to production in a rapidly shifting landscape

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $136,000 - $245,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
