About the jobThis position is needed to ensure that Twilio’s products and infrastructure follow secure-by-design principles. You will partner closely with our platform, IT, and supernetwork teams to provide leadership and guidance to ensure that new technology solutions meet Twilio’s high security standards.
You will also drive the security of telecommunications systems and protocols across Twilio’s platform. You will be expected to set, verify, and guide technical security direction across all of Twilio products and services and drive guidance and leadership connection with senior engineering leadership.
ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you’ll:
- Design and implement security standards across a broad range of Twilio products and services
- Identify and extend telecom-specific requirements for the Twilio platform
- Design and build scalable architectures to improve data security for telecommunications networks
- Represent security requirements with engineering and senior leadership partners throughout the organization

Required:
- 10+ years of experience working in a security-focused role within a technology-related industry, including 5+ years in a leadership/managerial position.
- Extensive knowledge of telecom-specific security challenges, technologies, and standards, including protocols such as SS7, Diameter, and SIP, as well as experience addressing vulnerabilities in 5G, IoT, and mobile network infrastructures.
- Proven understanding of risk and vulnerability remediation, with a strong track record of reducing risks in complex telecommunications environments and successfully collaborating with technical teams.
- Proven, proactive communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships across business units, particularly with senior leadership teams.
- Strong understanding of telecom network security, cloud security, application security, cryptography, and securing high-volume, high-reliability distributed systems.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders in high-pressure environments dealing with competing priorities.
- Familiarity with compliance and regulations, such as GDPR, FCC regulations, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, in addition to broader security compliance frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, SOX, and HITRUST.
- Proven ability to work in a distributed-systems environment with cloud-native telecom deployment models, including NFV and SDN
- Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable architectures for telecommunications networks, leveraging cutting-edge tools and methodologies to safeguard data and operational integrity
Desired:
- Experience with security risk assessments, IT audit, and GRC software as well as tools and frameworks specifically suited to telecom environments.
This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in Colorado or Washington D.C.: $184,000 - $230,000
- Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $195,000 - $244,000
- Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $217,000 - $271,000
- This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
