Senior Art Directors play a critical role in shaping big ideas, defining brand platforms, and bringing them to life through campaigns, activations, and experiences. They lead creative thinking from first spark to final execution, pushing for originality, relevance, and craft at every stage.

As a Senior Art Director, you will help set the creative direction for the brands you work on, concepting ambitious ideas, exploring new technologies, and driving work through to outstanding final outputs across channels and touchpoints.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Lead and deliver art direction across a wide range of brand communications, including brand platforms, integrated campaigns, activations, content, digital experiences, and film.
  • Generate strong conceptual ideas that are rooted in strategy, culturally relevant, and executed with exceptional craft.
  • Push for innovation—exploring new technologies, AI-enabled tools, and emerging creative approaches to elevate both ideas and execution.
  • Create original, persuasive, and conceptually compelling work that performs across channels and scales globally.
  • Play a key role in defining the creative expression of brands, ensuring consistency, clarity, and impact across all outputs.
  • Collaborate closely with strategists, designers, technologists, producers, and clients to shape and deliver world-class work.
  • Challenge briefs, ask the right questions, and help define the problem before solving it.
  • Lead by example, raising the creative bar and inspiring others to think bigger and craft better.
  • Drive projects with confidence, mentoring junior team members and supporting their creative development.
  • Be accountable for the quality and delivery of all creative outputs, ensuring they meet AKQA’s standards for excellence.

 

QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS
  • A compelling portfolio demonstrating strong conceptual thinking, brand-led campaigns, and exceptional craft.
  • Proven experience working across brand platforms, integrated campaigns, and activation-led ideas.
  • A passion for making ideas tangible through storytelling, visuals, motion, experience, and detail.
  • Curiosity and openness towards AI, emerging technology, and new creative tools, with a desire to experiment and evolve your practice.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills, able to clearly articulate ideas visually and verbally.
  • A broad cultural awareness and a natural interest in performance, movement, and contemporary culture.
  • A drive to push boundaries and create work that stands out in the world.
  • Collaborative by nature, with experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and directly with clients.
  • Confident in leading creative workstreams and supporting team growth.
  • Highly proficient in industry-standard creative tools.
  • Appreciated supplementary skills include photography, motion, 3D, digital experiences, or emerging interactive formats.
