We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer for our Developer Experience team in Berlin! 

You will:

• Build and maintain awesome tools and services to improve the happiness and productivity of other engineers
• Identify the engineering challenges of other teams and opportunities to automate, improve and add structure to their routine tasks and work
• Build and maintain a variety of microservices and tools at the intersection of the Platform and Infrastructure underlying Babbel’s applications
• Build libraries, and automation tools, set quality and engineering standards 
• Drive the initiative of modernizing existing platform services to ensure they are prepared to meet scaling, reliability, and security requirements
• Although it’s optional, you are encouraged to join our 24/7 on-call rotation, ensuring the availability and health of our business-critical platform services

You have:

• Confident knowledge of distributed systems and event-driven architecture in a cloud-native environment with AWS (e.g. Lambda, ECS/Fargate, Kinesis, DynamoDB and others)
• Fluency in at least one of our core languages: Golang and Ruby. Solid experience with both would be a huge plus
• Strong programming and software design skills. Being able to read and understand codebases and infrastructure is critical for this role
• Ability to work independently and empathize with other developers who are our main stakeholders
• Experience and ability to work with a diverse set of people of all backgrounds and cultures
• Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code with Terraform is a plus
