This role will directly support the Payments team. At Airbnb, if there’s anything related to moving money, it comes to the Payments team. We have built a world-class payments and commerce organization - one that currently supports 191 countries, 70 currencies, connects dozens of payment providers and banks, processes billions of dollars, and empowers more people to participate in our global marketplace.
The Difference You Will Make:
Based in either the UK or Luxembourg, your role as a member of Airbnb’s legal team will involve working closely with business, compliance and legal partners to advise on payment services regulation to support our payments entities in the UK and Luxembourg. The position is responsible for supporting Airbnb’s UK and European regulated payment services entities by managing the licensing, supervision, and reporting requirements of Airbnb Payments. Your role will require a high degree of organisational skills, pro-activity and an aptitude for working in a quick-paced and busy environment. We’re looking for a highly adaptable and collaborative person who can handle ambiguity and rapidly shifting priorities with flexibility, patience, and poise. This role reports to our Senior Counsel, Payments Counsel.
A Typical Day:
- Legal support on payment services, compliance, and prudential matters and maintenance of our licensed payment entities in the UK and Luxembourg
- Support on payments regulatory matters, including payments laws and regulations that apply to our payments entities
- Provide advice and guidance to the product, operations, design, and engineering teams working in Airbnb’s payment team
- Coordinating and conducting day-to-day management of corporate governance, regulatory inquiries and some litigious matters
- Drafting and reviewing inter-company and commercial agreements
- Fostering strong working relationships within the legal department and payments compliance team, senior management and business stakeholders
- Staying up-to-date and helping to keep the team advised on legal, regulatory, and policy developments relevant to payments and financial services
- Proactively working to draft, review and revise internal processes, policies and workflows
- Instructing outside counsel where appropriate and supervising the provision of cost-effective, business-oriented legal advice
Your Expertise:
- Law Degree plus professional legal qualification from UK or a Member State of the European Union
- A minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, and/or in-house legal departments
- Experience in corporate legal and financial services regulatory matters is preferred
- Detail-oriented with strong project management, organisational and analytical skills
- High level of personal integrity, professionalism, ability to work independently, flexibly and creatively, with a sense of humour and desire to learn and grow
- Fluent in English, other European language(s) a plus
