At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.
Teamworking for the planet
Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:
We are leveraging advanced analytics and automation to unlock insights to understand OVO’s customers better, personalise experiences, and make smarter and faster business decisions that enable our customers on their Path to Zero.
This role in a nutshell:
Our team owns four data products in different stages of development, all aiming at bringing customer insights to life, so the business can make better decisions faster. As part of this effort, we need someone to understand the data assets, including output of machine-learning models, and connect the assets with business processes to enable efficiency.
You'll be working with analysts, data scientists and stakeholders across the business –be it the energy economics team, operations, finance, etc– to understand requirements to then produce valuable actionable insights, highlighting opportunities that move our products and the business forward.
Your key outcomes will be:
- Generate and lead initiatives to advance the data-driven capabilities of OVO as a business, from a customer analytics perspective.
- Create actionable insights that closely relate or align to our data products. Contribute to improving and scaling such products and in general, help productionise actionable insights.
- Take an active role ensuring data is considered in all stages of the product life cycle of the projects we participate in (scoping, planning, building, post-release analysis).
- Help develop and implement the roadmap for reporting and visualisation that could help a customer-focused data science team better serve internal customers.
- Establish collaborations and provide support at various organisational levels including C-suite and board members. This includes managing requests and finding opportunities to support them using commercial analytics, so they achieve their goals.
- Solving business problems with a multi-disciplinary approach, within multi-disciplinary teams, aligning to the company strategy. This involves working in cross-functional teams in close collaboration with energy, commercial, trading, ops, CRM and other departments.
- Develop a deep understanding of the business processes and the multiple data sources (internal or third-party), proactively using them to generate insights, develop data products and help OVO progress in our data maturity journey.
- Promote best practice, guiding stakeholders and other analysts of various levels in the use of data and analysis techniques.
- Promote ethical best practice in the way all data is used and processed, always ensuring compliance, security and our customers are placed first.
Systems: proficiency of SQL is required and being conversant in Python is beneficial. We use Google Cloud, BigQuery, Dataform, Github, Tableau, ThoughtSpot, Looker –any familiarity with these or equivalent technologies is preferred.
You’ll be a successful Analyst at OVO if you…
- Have a quantitative background (degree or equivalent) and proven experience solving real-world problems in customer-centric businesses.
- Are highly numerate & analytical, able to delve into the details but able to zoom out to understand the strategic view.
- Have excellent presentation and communication skills - able to articulate results clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders, often using visualisation tools (Looker, Tableau, ThoughtSpot, etc).
- Have experience working with a range of datasets, including digital journeys data, customer data, demographics and other common sources used in customer analytics - ideally in the utilities or energy sector – and you enjoy joining the dots between business processes, customers journeys, datasets and products.
- Can interpret graphical representations of data and make recommendations.
- Statistical knowledge including basic experimental statistics, sampling principles, the meaning of significance, hypothesis testing and basic probability theory.
- You think about the customer first, so all your analysis and contributions to the product have a direct line with the customer experience.
- Have a proven track record of engagement with senior stakeholders in a fast-paced and (potentially) data-driven environment; where prioritisation is essential.
- Have a demonstrated path toward more ownership, influence and leadership in data-driven projects.
- Think beyond the one-off report and enjoy building insights that last, and to make this happen you collaborate with Data Scientists and Engineers using common languages (SQL, Python) and version control tools, applying general software development principles.
