About our Financial Crime team:

As we continue to scale, we’re looking for a Senior Data Science Manager to lead one of our key product areas for Financial Crime. As a Senior Data Science Manager, you’ll be working in an ever changing environment, in collaboration with Engineering, Product and Risk teams, to develop and deliver the data strategy and help to lead a cross-functional team. You’ll help us build and improve these for now and for our future roadmap. We’re looking for a data driven strategic leader who can bring fresh thinking and develop cutting-edge solutions that keep our customers and business safe.

What you’ll be working on:You’ll work closely with Product Managers, engineers, and Financial Crime control owners in an agile environment.  You’ll champion the use of data, bring ideas to life through rigorous experimentation and data analysis. Your work will focus on improving our efforts in financial crime detection, prevention and mitigation, ensuring we stay ahead of emerging threats and regulatory requirements.

You will manage multiple teams composed of Data Scientists and Data Analysts, and help them grow, hiring new team members and supporting their personal development. Your team will inform strategy and measure the impact of the product changes we make.

You will also be part of the wider data leadership group and help shape the role that data plays across the company. As part of your role, you will ensure that most day-to-day data-driven decisions can be covered by self-serve analytics through Looker to give data scientists the head space to focus on more impactful business questions and analyses.

  • Team Development: Help hire, develop, and retain top Data Science talent. Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration within your team.
  • Project Management: Structure and manage complex projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery across various teams.
  • Technical Guidance: utilise your technical expertise to guide the team in producing insights to guide our financial crime strategy.
  • Collaboration: Work cross-functionally to align strategies and ensure that our financial crime prevention measures are robust and effective. Maintain clear communication with all stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Innovation and Compliance: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data science and financial crime prevention. Ensure that Monzo’s practices comply with all relevant regulatory requirements.

  • You are a strong strategic data leader, with a passion for translating data insights into actionable strategies.
  • You are a strong communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You’re excited by the opportunity to work autonomously to impact the future of a fast growing, ever evolving business
  • Experience in financial crime, fraud detection, or similar areas (Trust & Safety, Integrity, Security) is a plus.
