About our Data Scientist opportunity:

At Liftoff, our Data Scientists build systems that enable real-time recommendations for billions of ad requests daily. Focusing on the mobile app ecosystem, we leverage and combine our enormous and unique datasets to model click rate, conversion rates, bid prices, win rates and post-install user lifetime values. We contextually match our content across tens of thousands of apps. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to develop models and algorithms behind our products, which helps our customers to maximize the value of users and the return on their ad spend. 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data to identify useful relations, patterns and features that are predictive of user behaviors, preferences, intents, interests
  • Continuously identify and explore new and unconventional data sources
  • Design, develop, and implement statistical and machine learning models to predict competitive bidding landscape, click through rate, conversion/action rate, ad relevance to users etc.
  • Generate hypothesis and design effective online experiments to continuously iterate and improve on advertising performance
  • Take on unique model challenges of data sparsity, delayed feedback, as well as modeling in the context of privacy restrictions
  • Work with engineering and operations teams to build systems and operational capabilities for implementing models and algorithms, and monitoring and evaluating their health and effectiveness in production
  • Use strong communication skills (verbal and written) to explain statistical and machine learning concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate with a team of world-class engineers with diverse backgrounds.
  • Be part of an “engineering excellence” culture through state-of-the-art tools, risk-driven testing, explainable systems, and code review.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience; Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Solid understanding of probability distributions and statistical modeling 
  • Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficiency in one scientific programming language (Python is preferred)
  • Hands on experiences with a deep learning framework (e.g. TensorFlow, Pytorch)
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate about helping others and investing in the team’s success.

Nice to have:

  • Adtech experience is a major plus
  • Experience maintaining high quality production code
  • Experience deploying effective ML models to production
  • Experience connecting to data sources and prototyping data pipelines
  • Experience with Bayesian statistics and modeling

Liftoff's compensation strategy includes competitive market rate along with equity and benefits and perks that will give our employees what they need to do their best work.  In order to ensure teams are compensated fairly for the work performed, we map out specific levels and take into consideration the cost of labor within each location.

The base pay range for this position in the US depends on the location and falls in the following zones:SF Bay Area, New York City, Los Angeles, Orange County: $160,000 - 190,000Seattle/Olympia, Austin, Boston, San Diego, Santa Barbara: $150,000 - 175,000All other cities in our approved to hire states: $140,000 - 164,000
