About the jobThis position is needed to build and operate data and analytics services for our mail pipeline. We do this by leveraging technologies like AWS Aurora/MySQL, ProxySQL, DynamoDB, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Go, Docker, Kubernetes, etc. We are looking to grow the team to help support cloud migrations, scale existing offerings and create new offerings through tooling and automation.
Our team manages the database lifecycle for some very large databases that are essential for Twilio's email pipeline, while also designing, building, and maintaining highly scalable and reliable software that empowers customers with comprehensive email logging and analytics. Our systems process over 1 million events per second on an average day. We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to help migrate our on-premise MySQL databases to AWS Aurora, manage and build logging and analytics services. You will be part of a team that ensures the reliability and performance of a large and diverse data storage stack, builds and operates analytical services. You will directly engage with other development teams to provide data-relevant advice and feedback, and create standards and procedures for leveraging managed datastores in the cloud.
ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you’l:
- Develop standards, procedures, tools to deploy, configure, and operate databases in a large-scale environment.
- Help resolve technical Database issues/blockers.
- Perform thorough and thoughtful code reviews to help maintain a high standard of code quality.
- Identify key system metrics and ensure adequate monitoring coverage for new and existing data storage and analytical services.
- Work with teams across the company to troubleshoot/determine resolution for complex issues
- Be creative, take your own initiative, and solve some of our most challenging problems
- Promote a DevOps culture that is driving massively scalable, highly reliable, resilient services in a fast-growing customer and engineering-focused company.

Required:
- 3+ years of experience in your craft with demonstrated skill progression.
- Proficiency with various relational and non-relational databases.
- 2+ years of experience managing MySQL and AWS Aurora at a data-intensive environment
- Experience managing large-sized relational and non-relational data stores in on-prem infrastructure as well as public cloud (i.e. AWS, GCP, etc).
- Ability to design complicated and reliable components and large-scale systems.
- Proficiency scripting or writing complex scripts with Bash, Python or Ruby
- Proficiency with one or more of the programming languages (Go, Java, C++, or similar)
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and other orchestration systems.
- Strong knowledge of Linux internals and computer systems (file systems, networking, memory, etc).
- Automation-minded; experience automating processes and administrative tasks.
- A highly effective collaborator and leader, you work with your team and help drive team towards common goals.
- Self-driven; take complete ownership of your tasks and champion efforts to get your tasks to completion.
- Degree in Computer Science or similar experience work experience.
Desired:
- Experience with Terraform or similar configuration management tools.
- Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes.
- Experience with Go.
Location
This role will be Remote in the USA but is not eligible to be hired in CA, NY, WA, PA, CT. We prioritize connections and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

- The estimated pay range for this role, based in Colorado, is $135,920.00 - $169,900.00 .
- Sales Commission: Additionally, this role is eligible to earn commissions and eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.
- Non-Sales: Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
