Job Summary:

This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment for a fashion label in the retail industry.  The successful candidate will possess well-rounded accounting knowledge and experience, along with strong inter-personal skills.  The primary responsibilities will be to oversee the general ledger accounting functions, monthly close and related analysis, identifying and implementing ongoing process improvement opportunities, while ensuring strong internal control processes. 

 The role reports into the Controller. This is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results
  • Oversee month-end closing responsibilities for wholesale and retail businesses
  • Responsible for bank borrowing base calculation
  • Drive monthly/quarterly closing processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Oversee all balance sheet reconciliations
  • Responsible for all sales dilution reserves specifically for sales allowances i.e. returns, discounts, markdowns and co-operative advertising
  • Work closely cross functionally to design, develop and implement process improvements (SOP’s) and best practices
  • Work closely with FP&A team in budgeting and forecasting
  • Lead external year-end audits and bank audits
  • Oversight of sales tax, and property tax filings.
  • Formalize process narratives, develop and design controls where needed
  • Enable and drive process improvements to accelerate and optimize accounting close
  • Assist with ad-hoc assignments and special projects and implementation of new accounting standards
  • Preparation of monthly financial reporting package – Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows
  • Drive monthly/quarterly closing processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness with a focus on improving the balance sheet focus and related analyses
  • Manage the daily operations of accounting services, to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger and chart of account functions
  • Maintain automated systems to support operational efficiencies in the collection and analysis of financial data and to ensure accurate and reliable financial records
  • Key stakeholder for finance for system implementations

The estimated salary for the role is $175,000-$225,000 based on experience and qualifications.
