This Senior Editor's main focus is assisting the Managing Editor in the management, resourcing and support of Lonely Planet’s pool of freelance editors (both copy and layout).

What You'll Do:

  • Working as part of a team, the primary responsibilities of this role are:

    • Recruitment and training of new freelance editors
    • Quality assurance and maintenance of editorial standards, including adherence to Editorial Principles and the guidebook structure guidelines through:
      • ongoing checking of work and giving of feedback to freelance editors
      • ongoing support of freelance editors
      • development and maintenance of editorial style and process documentation
    • Scheduling and contracting of resources
What We're Looking For:
  • Extensive editorial experience (3–5 years)
  • Experience (2+ years) of Lonely Planet’s structure, editorial style conventions and production processes
  • High-level understanding and knowledge of editorial conventions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, InDesign

  • Excellent communication, problem solving and negotiation/persuasion skills
  • A thorough understanding of operating in a content management system
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise workload while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Must be customer focused with a flexible and adaptable attitude and a proactive, constructive approach
  • Passion for travel
